Default Sight Choices

Greetings,

My wife has a Sword Acu-Sight Apex 3rd Plane Sight. What is the closest match in the Sight Choices section? I couldn't find this sight in the Sword options.

Thanks much,
Jim

Not sure what you are looking for - here is a link to sword's website - it has the Apex 3rd Plane site as well as an Apex Micro 3rd Plane sight

I'm trying to figure out what to select in the Sight Selection section of OnTarget for my wife's Apex Micro 3rd Plane sight. Since there her sight is not an option built into OnTarget, I don't know what info to put there.

So I guess the question is, is there an option built into OnTarget that I can select in the Sight Section that is the same as the pex Micro 3rd Plane sight?

Jim

The sight database only contains slider, linear, dial, and Hoggernaut sights.

Pin sights aren't listed in the sight database because they are technically "generic"...they all have pins in varying quantities.

You address this by selecting "Multi-Pin Sight" in the Sight frame of the Equipment/My Setup tab. Selecting the "Multi-Pin Sight" radio button "opens" the Pin Sight setup area. You enter the number of pins your sight has, the distance of your closest pin, and the pin spacing you use.

If you set your pins at "odd" distances like some people that shoot the Bowhunter classes in NFAA field shoots, enter the distances in the five NFAA spaces provided. If you don't shoot NFAA you can ignore those field (leave them at the defaults).

For pins sights leave the Click Value and Clicks Per Mark at the system defaults as well. When you make your pin gap templates, select the option you want (Pins or NFAA) the system to use when making the template.

You can use the Pin Gap method to find the velocity and then use that velocity to make a tape.

The Pin Gap method uses the difference between two pins to calculate velocity. Use the program default settings for Clicks Per Mark and Click Value. Just make sure that the two pins you use are 20 yards apart and the first mark is further than the High Pin distance. A first pin of 30yds or more will give better results when determining velocity...harder to just be "close enough" as when shooting short distances.

Accurate Sight Radius and Peep Height measurements are important too, so get them as close as possible.

Thank you for the info. I was under the impression (not sure how I got that impression :-) that I could enter all the data about the bow and arrows and the software would create me a graph showing me how to set up (space) the pins for 10, 20, 30 and 40 yards.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks, Jim

Jim,

The Pin Gap method is used to determine velocity from pin gaps. This is done on the Calibration tab. See my previous post..last 3-4 pargraphs.

After you calculate the velocity, use the "Export" "^" button to send the gap velocity to the Make Marks tab. Click the Make Marks tab and select Multi Pins or NFAA Pins to create the gap template. Click to the Print Setup tab to print the template.

-or-
On the Calibration Tab, select Program Method to accept the software calculated speed. I use this method and it is very accurate, as long as the calculated velocity is close to the chrono velocity (See Calibration Tab instructions for entering VPG & VPP data).

On the Make Marks Tab, select Multi-Pins/5NFAA Pins, and you'll get the pin spread template.
