Hi gang,
Last night my brother-in-law gave me a traditional bow - no string and doesn't know anything about it. It was given to him by his neighbor who was moving. His neighbor knew I was into bow hunting. Anyway, what I was given was a Shakespeare Wonderbow on the backside of the lower limb it says 60" (at least it appears to be quotation mark) F5###5H (serial number pretty sure) 30- 28" First - since I don't know anything about traditional archery, I would guess this means it is a 30# draw at 28" - is that correct? So I am thinking this is more a kids bow? Any information anyone has would be great. I would need to know where to find a string for it, length, type. Also, what arrows recommended and where to find some sort of arrow rest to replace the one on it that seems to be made of feathers but is missing about 1/2 and needs replacement. Thanks Jim |

30# is the weight, and most Trad guys that I know usually don't pull much more than 35#.
28" Draw is correct Jim I would say that it needs a 54" string.. Should be able to pick one up, Or let some trad guy make you one... No kids bow Jim.... Just remember when pulling 30# on a Trad bow, your also holding 30# To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Dacron is usually what most of those strings are made of.. But some have there on preference's. You can also visit To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Thanks John - Any idea if this is a decent traditional bow or not? I think I may invest in setting it up to do a little shooting on the traditional style as a little side hobby - still have so much to learn and improve on my compound/hunting rig.

check the bow for cracks and see if the limbs are twisted or straight. a 60" bow will need a 56" string or thereabouts. you'll need dacron as bows that old arent made to use fast flight. prolly a 12 or 14 strand string would do fine. as far as what its worth I have no idea. you can use an elevated rest or if it has a shelf cut in it a shelf rest like seal skin or something like that. check the 3 rivers website. they prolly have some strings and other things you can use. you can even call them and they can tell you about the bow itself.
oh, as far as arrows, prolly some little 1816's or some fiberglass kids arrows would do fine. I think 3 rivers has those too. |
