Cindy and I would like to once again thank y'all for the great Missouri welcome and hospitality. We feel like we're visiting with our neighbors when we are there. Had a nice long conversate with Dubbya yesterday morning and then got to listen to some Big Country stories and before we knew it the Satuday shoot was about done.
Bob sorry we didn't get to say goodbye either. I PMed WR to let him know what happened to us. We woke from a little afternoon snooze and just decided we didn't want to do the whole drive in one day. We just rolled in a few minutes ago.
thndrlvr thanks for taking good care of Cindy again.
I have more pics I'll post later.

Bob it was great to meet Monica this time too! :D Jamesport supplied us with much needed bread products for the return trip home! :new_rofl:
Dubbya I started looking closer at them barns on the way home and they do have doors where those gable overhangs are so I guess the track system is the reason.

Thats the only reason I can think of partner and I'm not old enough to have ever seen the system in action :eusa_hand: .... But, after some thought, I do remember playing and swinging out the windows of some old barn loft's on the ropes and pulley's that still remained ..... a lot of child accidents came from some of these old barn's ...... before we had computer's and could stay indoors by the air conditioner :icon_cry: ........ looking back it's no wonder I'm so dumb :happy8: ....... probably fell out of the barn loft on my head and dad & mom had one old fan in the house ( Child abuse ) :icon_scratch: :PDT_Armataz_01_22:
Thanks for the one on one time together Tex :icon_thumleft: ... you sure know how to make an old man feel good :occasion14:

Dang Tex...you never been on a farm? ??? I guess in Texas you may be able to graze horses, cattle, etc all year long...but us northern folks don't have that luxury...so, many barns had/have hay lofts to store the hay in....keeps it up out of the way...and it is much easier to lift hay bales up to the second floor than lifting the John Deere up there LOL :D
The gable over the double doors (most had double doors) protects and supports the track on which the pulleys ride on...nowadays they use mechanical belts...when I was a kid we pulled them up by hand one bale at a time (penny a bale...course...you could actually buy something with a penny back then LOL) The person on the ground did the hoisting with a rope and pulley...the person in the loft would roll the pulley inside, release the bale and then send the pulley back out on the rail and then stack the bale while the person below sent up another one...it was one way we earned money as kids...the other was picking potatoes...but that's another story LOL
I'm guessing that's what you and WR are talking about...if not...then delete this post LOL
Did ya get some pics? I saw lots of possibilities..but with the kids I didn't even think of pulling off the road LOL

Nut first let me say that I'm glad to have put an eyeball on ya' my friend. It was good to see the boys in the flesh too but they sure didn't sit still long enough to have many words. I do wish we had had more time to chat.
I did indeed bring the BIG binos with a tripod as I had hoped to set up so the younguns could see what they can see with them things they carry around their necks while shooting 3D. I couldn't see Jupiter like I did last year but I don't think I was looking very hard since when we got in the open not only was Jupiter there in all its splendor but so was Venus and Saturn.
We (they, not me) farm mostly cotton in my parts and I don't think they need them kind of barns for that. But mostly they ranch down here so hay is put in pole barns stacked from the ground up. It is definitely interesting to learn about these things. We didn't take near as many barn pictures as we should have. Next time I'm up that way I'm going to make darn sure it is more leisurely.
Cindy got these two on Friday when we were first headed to Pershing. We were rolling along at about 60 mph.

While we did have a great time and were glad to see everyone, there were faces that were missed this year.
Maybe next yeere we'll have Moluck.
I can't even start to mention them all. I wouldn't won't to haRaz anyone.
Skeaterbait you didn't even say "hey"! I forgive ya' though. I know you was preoccupied with the Nut.

Now Tex...Skeeter wasn't pre-occupied with me...he just wanted to collect his hug and kiss from Vinnie :D
I wished we coulda had more time :( When I saw you Friday...the boys were itchin' to get to the hotel to use the pool before it closed...and I figured I would see everyone Sat evening...but things just didn't quite click...
...but we do have a few home shows up here throughout the year...maybe ya need to make a trip...I'm sure your boss will foot the bill :D
And ditto about the ones that didn't quite make it down theere :( We missed them, too...

Tex ifin I was a camera BUG old barns would be my prime target ! I wouldnt be able to SKIP a single one without takin a pic of it ! What would be great would be able to get history to go with the pic! I have seen lots of old barns torn down and burnt just because they were tired of farming around them ! :(
There were lots of people that were missed this year !

Nice links WR. The old barns around here are being razed as new subdivisions keep popping up...it's a shame to see such fertile ground being destroyed...this land can never be replaced :(
I wish I had the time to go out and take some pics...I was telling Tex about the 16 sided barn that fell down last month before I had a chance to take a pic...I believe it was one of only two such barns left standing in IL...have no idea what happened to it as it was in the process of being restored as funds became available...I know they put a new roof and shored up some of the trusses etc...guess I'll have to get a pic of how it looks now :(
The workmanship in these old barns is phenominal!! More and more...the old barns around here are being sold for their lumber...many were made of oak or other hardwoods...and the large timbers used can not be made today...the wood just isn't the same...trees grow faster and don't have the same tight grain...so people are buying the barns and then pain-stakingly taking them down board by board and then reusing the wood for everything from home decor to furniture...
Here's a pic of it I found...seems like a more recent pic...
