Lets try to get enough folks together to have an indoor league.
If you are interested.......please chime in on THIS thread.
Also......tell me what your preference would be?
Vegas....3 spot
NFAA......5 spot
Should we have teams?
Individual?
Whatever your preference....make it simple.........because you have a SIMPLE guy running it! :xn_lol:
I'd be interested in Individual 5 spot

Hey, one more thing guys......if you have ever shot an NFAA round(5 spot) before, put down your best guess of your average score so we can try to make teams as even as can be.
Example: On 5 spots I am around a 300 with 50X
One more point........this league is NOT about trying to beat Dave Cousins! It is about our members having fun.
That said.....we need all members to participate, REGARDLESS of your scoring average! We will try to make teams with the same total group score.
So everybody that can find the time to shoot one 5 spot round each week.........Come on and sign up!!! :xn_cheesygrin:

Sign me up, either target is fine with me. Unless we have a bunch of archers I say individual. Only because one guy dropping out really messes a team up. To tell the truth I have not shot a five spot for score since the Florida indoor almost a year ago. Put me down for 300x low 50X (give or take 30x's )
We need a sticky (what's one more) in the General section to tell folks to come over here. First time i've ever come here.......................ck

How many weeks will we do this? I have not ever done the online league before, so you may have to walk me thru this.
If we can do it, I think the team thing would be fun.
Can I use my club league score each week?

Still not sure on the team or individual thing skip. I think we need to see if we get enough folks to do teams.
I like the team concept better, that way the folks that are not banging out 300`s yet will still play.
I guess we need to set a deadline for signup. Oops, just got a call from work.....be right back!

Hey Everyone!
I'd like to play...either face is fun. how about both?
I can probably get my shooting buddy, Jarlicker, and maybe a couple of others at Durham County Wildlife Club to commit as well.
We already shoot indoor Tue/Thur nights and times inbetween. trying to get ready for Vegas.

If we do individual, we will need a handicap system so that anyone can compete. Otherwise it would preclude many who would otherwise want to play… It is no fun posting a 295 30X when several are posting 300 55-60X…. :xn_redface:
Macaholic
12-31-2004, 12:38 PM
hey Javi,
I'm that 295-30X shooter and my goal is to improve week to week. seeing most everyone shoot higher scores is my incentive to strive for learning to be more competitive. A handicap would be okay as long as it's fair but I'd a whole lot rather beat a 300 shooter on their terms than get a freebie if I shoot over my average. UNLESS we're talking $$$, then I'll take any advantage offered 8)

My fiance would probably be in also. MY average on a 5 spot is 298 35-45x's. Are you going to have a BHFS and a FS class or just group them together??

I can probably get awhit003 and a couple of other guys in on it too. If we do teams it'd be best if all of us guys over here were on the same team though, that way if we had to drop out it'd cause the least amount of distuption.

Sounds good DD. Just need a guesstimate of averages so we can make teams as fair as we can.
I have zero knowledge of league software like Jon is willing to use for this league. I hope that when you get a handicap, then you improve....you CANNOT get credit for more than 300 per round.
I may be wrong though.....xring, can you enlighten me on this one? :xn_cheesygrin:

01-02-2005, 02:13 PM
The software I will be using is similar to the hadicap system used in bowling leagues. I will base it on 80% I will plug some numbers into the program and see, but if I recall you can't shoot above a 300 with it. I will check.
Oh, since you are looking for average scores to team people up...I was holding a 300 58.3x average last year.

This sounds like fun, I also vote for the NFAA 5 spot. *
It has been a few years since I shot any target archery. *Back then my average was 299 47X with a target setup and 296 39X with a 3D setup, although I may be a little lower than that now . *
There is only one class right? *I will probably use a 3D setup once my Allegiance arrives.

I would have loved to join that league, but it seems every league around here I want to join runs on Tuesday nights. I'll probably be up at White Pigeon on Tuesday's if you are ever out and about DD...
I heard at another board that you guys might be starting an online league here. I have just started to shoot some paper this year up here in Saskatchewan so would be interested in getting in on this. We do not have that many local shooters who shoot paper so we have no indoor leagues around here. I would shoot either 3 spot or 5 spot but do not have much experience with the five spot. As far as what my average is I can't say but would think it would be in the 295 to 296 range with 30-40X's on a five spot. ( have shot a 5 spot 3 times this year with a 295, 296 and 297) I am currently just using my hunting/3D bow for paper (pin sight, short stabilizer) but if I enjoy this paper thing as much as I think I will I may look at getting another target bow for next year.

I am new to indoor target archery and was wondering how you score these "300" 5 spot rounds. I understand that you shoot 60 arrows total but how can people get 300's while having different x counts? Is the x ring and next ring both worth 5?
Thanks, I'll consider joining after I shoot a couple rounds tomorrow...we'll see how it goes with the 3-d rig :?

The X is almost always worth only 5 points, (occasionally X’s are worth 6 depending on the event) however the number of X’s are generally used as a tiebreak when the point total is tied. At most tournaments there will be a number of people tied at 300, and the winner would be decided by the amount of X’s shot. Hope this helps some…

For some of you guys who do NOT have an average, or have never shot a league before.....that is FINE. We will get an average for you as we go.
You will need to get yourself some NFAA target faces though. A five spot, or a big single spot is OK. Just remember, if you shoot a single spot....you may start breaking your arrows aiming at the same bullseye with 5 arrows per end of shooting.
In case you missed it....here is a picture of how the scoring works on a 5 spot. Compliments of WR!

Hey Pinshooter,
I'm just curious and not looking to start any negative feelings but how can NOT practicing the 5-spot target help you get better at 3-D? I thought the whole idea with shooting was JUST DO IT! little spots, big spots, foam critters, dartboards, balloons, $bills.....whatever! Have fun and try to get better with learning this crazy game we play. My goal is to do a little better each time I shoot, sometimes it's backwards but I try to learn from it and keep on keeping on.
Besides, I need the company on the not so perfect score side
