Well, I can never leave anything alone and am always trying something out so I am now trying out the Bohning Blazer 2" vanes for hunting use. They weigh 5 - 6 grains each and after I take off my feathers and wrap, the weight change is almost nil. After I get to feeling better from being sick, I hope to see how they handle my Magnus Stingers and other BH's as well, especially the Snuffer. I did some research on the net and it seems like everyone is real happy with these vanes and if I like the results, I will change to them! We'll see. :x_wink:

Jerry,

A bunc of us down here used them this year, and they seemed to fly and control the BH as well as any 4" vain. The only theing that I heard is a few guys were having trouble with some of them staying glued to the wraps. I did not have any problems, but severial of my friends had a problem with a batch or two. I have been using "quick tie" super glue, and it holds very well!

I bought a bunch but haven't glued them on yet. Don't see how you can lose with them though. Everyone's talking about great steerage with them and lighter weight... cool!

I hope these work out Jeff. I like the idea of vanes but dont care for the weight and I have been happy with feathers but you know what is associated with feathers, so maybe this is a cure all, LOL

I agree Tejas.....you were typing as I was :)

I have been using the blazers since they first came out and I absolutley love them!

I have them on my Speed pro Max Shafts tipped withthe speed Pro 55 GN broadheads

this fast little setup has contributed to 3 does and a nice 6 point buck this year. PDT_Armataz_01_37 :D/

AA, you're using a right Zippy setup! I'm curious to your total outfit.

What is your arrow weight and FOC?
What bow? Poundage? Draw Length? Speed?

Tell us your thoughts on the performance of the light arrow now that you've got 4 deer!

Thanks!

I shot out to 40 yards today, once I got the contact issue resolved and I think I will be using these babies ! I am amazed at how durable they are. When I test something out, I punish it ! I want to see how it stands up to the worst case. I did several different things to the vanes and they didnt even hint about a wrinkle or tear! I was impressed ! They controlled my 85, 100 and 125 grain Stingers with no problems at all. I am going to test em out with a Snuffer one of these days when I am feeling better.
As of now, I think I will be giving up the feathers and using the Blazers as they continue to impress me!

I just got a bunch of Blazer vanes from bohning and I ripped my Quickspins of and fletched some arrows up with the blazers and they are outstanding I have taken 4 arrow shots at 50 yards and all 4 arrows are touching, I will definately stick with the blazer vanes. I also have some X-vanes to try out also.

Today I took 2 Axis 340 arrows (28") and 1 - 27" Axis 400 and toyed around with the Blazers. Now you all know (or better know ) I shoot the Magnus Stingers and they have been flying great with the Blazer vanes! The Extreme VFT I am shooting for the test of the Blazers is not finely tuned for a specific arrow combo yet. I raised the draw weight about 2# to 60# to accomodate the 340 shafts better spine wise. I used a TT drop away rest also.

Anyhow, I shot a 340 with a 125 grain Snuffer and it flew better than I thought it would out to 30 yards. I kept moving the nock and got it to fly nice and straight finally. So the Blazer can control a big ol Snuffer and NO hissing at all!

Next I shot a 340 with a 125 grain Slick Trick and did it shoot like a field tip WOW! I didnt have to touch a thing, it rocked out to 30 yards!
So they would impact exactly where my 125 grain Stingers are.

Next I took a 27" Axis 400 with a 100 grain 4 blade Muzzy and talk about WOW This combo really rocked !!! I mean dead straight and in the same hole a few times. And obviously much faster than the other 2 combos as it was much lighter of an arrow.

So with that said....I will say that the Blazers have passed my tests way better than I had imagined! They control the BH's I mentioned with no problems and are extremely durable !!! Not one vane came off as some went thru my target butts. Now I am a died in wool feathers shooter but I will be using these for hunting as it is a win win situation!! Another thing that impressed me, which I dont feel is real important but the vanes shoot so danged quiet compared to other vanes and feathers.

So I hope this feedback hopes someone who has been contemplating getting some Blazers. They do rock baby!

Jerry that is great cause I am going to be using stingers this spring for turkey season. Excellent results you posted we need more testing posted on here to help everyone out.

Thank you, appreciate it ! I do quite a bit of testing unofficially that is. I try to post as much as I can good and bad. I call it likes I see em.
The reason for it is, I dont use junk and if I can help someone , then I am happy so they arent using junk either. I have a deep committement to give back to the sport of hunting as well and any way I can help is the least I can do!
I wish I had the internet and forums like this back in the 60's when I started shooting a bow. I remember my roots

I'll definately have to give them a try next year. How do you think they will work with non-broadhead set ups?

I like mine! They group VERY well at longer distances!
My Dad also shoots them from his Horton X-bow!

Great looking arrows guys. I definately like my blazers, I have my carbon express cxl 250 selects and 3-D selects all fletched up with them.
I am also going to fletch some up with the new X-vanes these have a very low profile. Check them out.

Does Bohning also make the X-vanes?

If the Blazers can stabilize a Magnus Snuffer 125 grain BH, it will do a great job on any arrow IMO!

Love the blazers as well, here's a doe I shot with them with Stinger 4 blade 100gr broadheads attached.

I saw on another site that Quickspins will be coming out in the 2.5" category later this month.......anyone hear this as well?????????

mo_bowhunter, yes Bohning makes the X-vanes as well they are very low profile and work well also.
Bamaboshoot yes NAP will have there 3-D quick spins in 2.5" as well.

ganderman, showing my lack of knowledge, would there be enough stability to use the 2.5" vanes with broadheads??

Seeing you are shooting the Stinger 4 blade, with the quickspins 2.5" I would say probably but without testing them I am not 100% sure, I would have to say though from my experience shooting the 4" version that there is enough spin on them to make the Stingers shoot. If you can get a few and test them I would do that this way you arent out alot of money and you will be able to see up front if they work but in my experience like I sain I think they would fly o.k.

When re fletching with the shorter vanes (I've only done 4 in. feathers) approx. how far from the end of the arrow do you like to fletch them?

Jerry
01-12-2005, 01:47 PM
I would have to measure now as I dont have it perfect in memory but I think I do mine like 1" from the end of the arrow/nock.

1" is good I like mine about a half inch from the end, it is all personal preference and what works for you.

Jerry
01-12-2005, 02:04 PM
Yep, I like mine around the 1" mark as I use a kisser and dont want the vanes or feathers (which ever I use) to hit my facemask.

mo_bowhunter

But it doesn't really affect arrow flight, I'm assuming.

Jerry
01-12-2005, 04:36 PM
I would say it all depends on how straight the inserts are, the nocks and the arrow straightness and what BH you are using. A big arse bh like a snuffer is tough with 4" full fletch but something smaller like a 4 blade Muzzy might be easier. I tested the Blazers using a Snuffer and it flew good considering it wasnt tuned for my bow.
