Which do you use more for scouting purposes? I use aerials more than topos cause i'm mostly a funnel hunter and they show me a faster way to find them. Also, which site do you use for topos and aerials?

I use aerials because the land is so flat here a topo really doesn't show you much........ except for how flat the land is :o
I use To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. and To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. for aerials.

The only time I use the maps is when I go elk hunting and I start out with a Topo and do my homework, marking spots, etc and then I try and get an aerial map and take my topo info over to it. I carry a topo with me in the field and I have lots of markings on it for use with my GPS.

Like Buckeye said, its pretty flat where i hunt. You can see so much more with an aerail, especially on flat terrain.

I'd used terraserver before, but keyhole was new to me. I downloaded the 7 day trial and it seems pretty good. Another tool in the hunters possibles bag! Thanks BEBH!

I use topo more than anything.
I see Lowrance has came out with new MapCreate software with topo on it.
I have the earlier version for my Ifinder pro.
Guess I will buy myself a late X-mass present. :xmrgreen:

The bad thing about To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. is it does not cover all areas like terraserver does.
Keyhole is still fairly new and only covers larger pouplation areas. They will cover all areas sooner or later though.
IMO if Keyole covers your area it is second to none. They are color pics and you can zoom in so close it is crazy. Pic is super clear as well.

This photo was taken from the Keyhole program.* It's of a parcel in Texas close to my house where I've seen a few hogs.* The line drawn is 353 yards in length for comparison of image quality. The two lines at the end of the distance marker line are round hay bales.* You can zoom in much closer if you want to also.* This view gave detail and some ground features though.* I edited the size (75%) and quality (90%) of the original photo so that I could fit the 125K size limitation of our site, so the quality is actually better somewhat.
In zooming down to my house which is very cool by the way, I could see the covered boat in my driveway which means that the photo is less than a year old. You zoom into the selected address from a view of the earth and down you go fluidly until it stops at a normal aerial photo altitude. From there you can zoom in further and TILT the view too. Neat stuff!

Here's another one. This time it's Texas Ranger Stadium zoomed in to fit the who window. This one didn't need editing for file size.

Aerial has helped me much more that Topo. Reason being...I can Identify landmarks and determine choke points much easier.
