I recently decided to learn tru backtension. I went to the range this afternoon to shoot my first indoor round with tru backtension. My X count was way down(39), but I did manage a 300. This is with my hunting set up, Hoyt Supertec, Hogg-it with one pin, and a 10 inch stab, 2312 cobalts. I was pleased.
Back to the problem. At the start of the 11th end, my release hand started to tingle and feel like it was a sleep. This tingling persisted for an hour after I finished the final game. :?
Last season I shot the Insatiable and never had this problem. I was shooting a Carter Atension. Did I do something wrong? Anyone else ever experience this? Should I expect this everytime?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Arkysaw

Just a guess, but it sounds like you are too tensed up and pulling too hard through the shot.
I`d say you either pinched a nerve in your wrist, or you have a slight case of carpal tunnel.
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! :x_wink:

I was worried about carpal tunnel when it happened.* I hope that is not the case.
So, DR. "BC" recommends relaxation *
I did feel too tense, probably the reason for the low X count.* I had to let down about 30 times, because it wasn't going to "happen".
I need to figure this out.* I want to learn BT, but I can't go thru this every night.

I can't even spell dokter (see)....
Was it the entire hand going numb or just fingers. When I shoot my old 2 finger Stan my middle (birdie) finger will go numb occasionally. If I shoot a full 60 shot game it will take a while for it to get the feeling back in it. This does not happen with any of my 4 finger releases. Thats why I shoot my 4 finger BT Gold. I have heard of several people having this sensation or lack there of.
Try shooting with the release in different parts of your hand. Try relaxing your hand in different ways. If it keeps hurting or going numb... Quit.

not a DR. but am a nurse with pinched nerves, and that's what it sounds like. Sorry to tell you, but you really need to have that checked out just in case, you don't want to make something even worse. I haven't pulled my bow back in 15 months, 2 weeks and 3 days. Get it checked out soooooon. Or you'll regret it later.

I sincerely hope you find an answer to your numbness problem. I know my numbness problem amd it's called "Old Age"  :( That's why I always come back to the Scott Little Bitty Goose. I do shoot it using back tension however! 8) :D

As one who has had many years of back problems, I would say you probably have something like a sublaxation in your spine. It happens to me and my chiro takes it out. Alot of times we hurt in other areas but the real problem is the nerves to that area are affected from the spine misalignment, etc. I gave you the very short version*

I appreciate the input :)
I will try to shoot again this afternoon and see what happens. I won't push it.
Maybe, I will try a different release today.
Jerry, thanks for keeping it simple

just curious was it your entire hand or just your fingers and thumb?

It was the entire hand, from my wrist on down.
I shot a round this afternoon with a different BT release and did not have the problem. I shortened my drawlength and reduced the poundage also. I am not blaming the release.

you had some stress somewhere, and evidently worked it out for yourself. hope it stays gone. I know having your fingers and hand go numb is a scary feeling. good luck with it.

Shawn, you need to heal properly before you start tugging on the string again. Don't want you to miss out on 3-D this year. Get in shape for the "BudShoot Beatdown"  You know what I mean???
When do you think you will be able to start shooting again?
We need to plan to meet and shoot a few this year, what do you think. Maybe we can set it up with Paul. He needs some competition :D Maybe we can find someone to give it to him
