Getting ready to start my truck about 6 this morning when a unidentified truck rolls past my house. We live almost to the end of a private road in the middle of the woods. The truck didn't turn around and come back out so I called the game warden. We used to have alot of poaching here until people learned I would call the law. The warden arrived about 7 AM and told me he was going to go wait on them to come out of the woods, id them and if they weren't suppose to be there take the necessary action. If they had a deer it would turn into a felony being committed. As it turns out it was my neighbor's son. He probably isn't happy with me since his son was ticketed for not having a hunting license. Oh well. Law's the law. :police:

:xmrgreen: No Jerry but with a 22* temp this morning it would've been a better idea. 22* is tough on us Texas folk.

Well it seems like you did the right thing.
Poachers give all real hunters a bad name

Texhunter, people amaze me sometimes. One of the guys on the neighboring places to us in Brown Co was really bad mouthing the GW one day. He was pissed because the GW had written his son a ticket for hunting alone without the Hunter ED course. I told him that the law states he must have it to hunt alone if under age. He kept saying but he was hunting on OUR place. Evidently he feels the law doesn't apply if you are paying for the ground you hunt. I told him that my daughters had taken the course and his son should too. He won't talk or wave anymore :) but I don't give a rat's behind. Like you said, the law is the law.

Yeh these guys should know after 10 years of confronting people and calling the law on people that I'm going to "protect" the surrounding areas. I talked to the guy and he told me he appreciated me keeping a good eye on the place.
Mark, as far as I'm concerned the wardens in our state have a thankless, sometimes overwhelming job. The man sat at their truck for 2 hours waiting for them to come out.. He is the only warden in our county. I hunt where I live but my deer are tagged and the back of the license properly filled out showing the deer taken. I could easily take deer anytime on my place and no one would know (my bows are quiet). I follow the law and expect everyone else to.

Texhunter you deserve a attaboy, things like this should be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law it doesnt matter who it is or the age, The sad part about it is that the dad is teaching the kid all the wrong ways to go about hunting.

Texhunter, integrity and common sense are kinda like horny toads, they can still be found but not very often and when you and I were kids they were everywhere. :(
Merry Christmas and God bless you and yours. :x_wink:

LOL Mark, I know what you mean. Sad though isn't it?
Hope you and yours had a great Christmas. One week left in the North Zone although I haven't hunted here at home since my trip to S. TX.

Texhunter, my brother graduated from Howard Payne in '79, he played ball for mean Dean Slayton. He went on an a football scholarship. He still has lots of contacts around there. I played ball 1 1/2 seasons at McMurray in Abilene. It was a non scholarship program then and I played one full year, blew a knee out last game of that year. Spent 6 weeks in a cast and then the Docs decided I needed surgery, spent 6 more weeks in a cast and three months in therapy to get full range of motion back. I missed one season and then went back to start the next and never could overcome the fear of having another knee blown out. Finally quit ball after the third game. I went to school there for another year and then later finished up at Dallas Baptist here in Dallas.
My Dad and brother have 160 acres in Brownwood, the hunting is only fair but we kill a few deer each year. Here is a picture of my uncles buck killed opener of rifle and my youngest daughter's first buck, 2nd deer, killed on Youth Weekend. Both rifle kills.
