I live in the "Pittsburgh Area" of Pennsylvania and have seen alot of roadkills lately--is this attributed to fawns being born this time of year??

Every time I see a roadkill I think to my self--there is one less to bowhunt--I hate seeing a roadkilled deer!!!

Maybe Big Country can shed some light on this subject.

Have seen very few here in the Chicago area this spring...

....usually get a lot in the fall/winter season...

....and I have to agree..what a waste of a good meat....

Big Country has probably seen the same roadkills I have--I only live abouut a mile from him.

I never met him personally, but called him once to talk about his Illinois hunting operation--seems like a heck of a nice guy.

Ya out there Big Country?? Have you seen the roadkills lately in our area??

Same thing heere in Misery  :(

A friend of mine that makes a 90 mile commute daily counted 12 dead deere on his way to work last Monday.  Has to be the fawning that's going on.

I think some of it has to do with insects ! Flies can drive deer crazy just like cattle ! Keeps them on the move , thats why you see deer bedded down out in the open when its windy ! The last day of turkey season I saw a doe running around in circles through the buck brush she came up and stopped about ten yards from me stood there for a second and had several flies jump on her and away she went again !

when the fawns are born they're feet are tender,

and pavement and gravel isn't a natural surfaces to them,,, like dirt is to there tender feet and so when the mother goes across the road, the fawn stops due to the wird feeling it gets, Then the mother stands on the road trying to get her new born to come,,,and whack!

I think maybe our spring turkey season may have palyed a part in it too. Turkey hunters spooking deer and getting them moving a little more than normal.

May has the second highest roadkill rate in KS right after November. It is because this is the time of year all the does are looking for a place to drop fawns and pushing last years young out of those areas to make room.

Yep.

Raccoons, squirrels, rabits, possums, cats, and I think a deer or two.
