I am fairly new to BT. I am currently shooting the Carter Atension w/RAS. I like the release, but don't have anything to compare it to. There might be one out there that fits me better.

I have shot a lot of Carter thumb releases. They work great for me about 90% of the time, the other 10% really makes people laugh   I came down with Target Panic at last years Bragging Rights Shoot. I don't know where it came from, but I don't want it again. It use to be FUNNY, not any more

I want to try something new, but don't want a bag full of releases. I have med/large hands. The Atension is fairly comfortable, maybe just a little small.

What do you think?

The Scott 4-finger Longhorn is my favorite BT release, it is alot like the Carter Atension. Right now I am using the Carter Chocalate Addiction, it isn't a BT release, a thumb activated release, which can be used with back tension. wrap your thumb around the ball and pull straight back. It can be adjusted as hot or slow as you want it. There are alot of good BT releases out there, Carter, Truball, Stan, Zenith, all real good, just try them out at your pro shops and choose that way. my .02 cents

Arky,
I'm a punch-a-holic...but I've been panic free for about 9 months now. :P

I used a Zenith Comfort 3-Finger to work through it. It;s pure back tension, no buttons or triggers so you can rip the limbs off the bow but you can't punch the release. I tried a Tru-Ball thumb trigger release but I would just wear my thumb out whenever the pin got close to the middle so I had to go to a true back tension to get it out of my system.

Joe's a great guy and will work with you to make sure the release works perfectly for you. :D

I love my Truball BT Gold Ultra 3.

Havent tried any others, and don't see a reason to at the moment.

Thanks guys.

I think I will try out a 2 finger and 3 finger.

I have been experimenting, and it seems alot more relaxing for me to shoot with 2 or 3 fingers.

I will try out the 2 releases and keep the one that works.* I will probably try two different manufacturers.

I know I am still learning, but each shot seems like a lot of work * I don't know if I can do this 60 times indoors????

Idfalks, do you shoot your BT release in competition or just practice?*

I'm currently shooting the Carter Solution 2. I like the safety on it. Nice design and it won't go until I'm absolutely ready. You don't have to move the half moon and re-lock it to adjust for a comfortable hand position..... As soon as you release the safety it locks in place and you can finish your shot :D

...Arkysaw...I'd have to give my vote for ZENITH "4 finger" ...I tried a 3 finger but found that having a place for my "pinky" with a 4 finger helped me to control the release, and consequently the back tension(rotation) MUCH better...

...geez, that thing can make even a novice shoot Back Tension like a PRO...and maybe even BETTER than some PRO's :P ...

...I concur with LETHAL DOSE and would go to the ZENITH web site for a look see at what Joe has to offer...

...Joe is one of the most outstanding people in this business and will help you to help yourself get started into the wonderful world of* "TRUE" back tension releases...

All of the releases mentioned here are excellent choices. I personally shoot a scott longhorn III with the brass handle. The weight of the release makes a huge difference in the way I shoot believe it or not. I'm more consistent with the longhorn than with my Tru Ball ultra 4 or carter colby 2. I might suggest that you pick a BT release, buy a back up of the same model and stick with it. Shoot and train with it till it becomes an extension of your hand. I had a bad habit of changing releases every few weeks. That didn't help my shooting at all. Good Luck on your search!!!!!!!!!!! :D

That actually better advice than the type of release to shoot. PDT_Armataz_01_34

I tried back tension safety release until I found one that was "quality". The Carter Solution 2.5 is my 99.9%. I wll shoot an insatiable once in awhile to prove to myself that I shoot better groups with the 2.5. At full draw I rock the release inward, hit the safety release, pull and relax the back of my hand and off she goes. That's my preferred methods. If I'm having problems relaxing, then I just pull and she will go off...................ck

I sold all of my triggers a couple of years ago and decided to start shooting Zenith, Joe is a great guy and an awesome archer to boot so he has "been there done that" I shoot it with a .006 click and I use the click as part of my shot sequence.. I draw back , anchor, settle in, rotate till I hear the click, then concentrate on maintaining back tension while I aim... hard.... push the pin through the x, somtime between 2 and 8 seconds or so later it goes off.... don't know why... dont care... it just does... its awesome!
