My favorite mag isn't listed. Although it isn't a bowhunting only mag.
I like deer & deer hunting the best. They cover many topics on deer behavior and managment. This is what interests me the most.
I don't really read the mags for hunting tips but to get a better understanding of what goes on in the whitetails world. They are fascinating animals :)

I was going to say the same thing as buckeye, the best mag is not even on the list. Deer and Deer Hunting is by far the most informative magazine and my favorite.

As Buckeye said, I self filmed it. I use a "Gorilla Tree Arm" to video some of my own hunts when my videoing partner Tim and I can't get the day off together to film each other. I have 3 self filmed kills so far. It's really hard to accomplish, but there's no better rush when everything works out for you! \:D/
Here's a 4.5 mb video clip of that hunt. ----> To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I got a bad hit on it (caught the liver) and had alot of tracking to find it, but wasn't giving up for this world. [-(

Anybody heard of National Bowhunting Magazine? If yes, what do you think of it. I saw an ad for them on a Berry Game calls elk hunting video and it looked ok. I bought a subscription because it seemed, in the ad, they were not your standard 80% whitetail type of magazine. We'll see.

"filled with the same recycled crap over and over again about whitetails."
Thank you for that! I thought I was the only one who felt that way. There is absolutely NOTHING new in ANY whitetail article. It's all been said a million times over. I wish the bow mags would realize this and move on. I'd rather read an article about spot and stalk gopher hunting than see another article on stand placement, pre rut post rut, scent control, fool a bucks nose, bs.

At the time I only subsribe to Peteresens Bowhunting. I like Bowhunt America, but somebody told me Bill Krenz doesn't actually try out and test the bows he writes reviews about. Is this true? I was shocked because I really love the layout of their magazine.

What about the photos in each review that shows him shooting with the bow as setup and described in the article?
Sounds more like rampant rumor to me. Like how he now includes chronograph data with arrows of all weights too. Even the superlight High Country toothpicks!

I don't know if that's true but the tests he does are pretty cheesy. "racy" that's how he describes every bow. At least he gives some chronoed speeds with different setups. That part is cool.

I'd agree with that part too. I think he's very into promoting archery and the manufacturers / retailers. You notice that he rarely prints internet sites too? Kind of have some problems with his thinking there, but overall the magazine is good.

There's another that I like in the Hunting genre, though it's not a "bowhunting" magazine. It does have a regular column by Bob Robb on bowhunting.
Successful Hunter by the Wolfe Magazine group. Good reads for those who also dabble in the "other" catagory.
They also publish "Rifle" and "Handloader" magazines and publish a pile of books.

The more I read the Bow and Arrow hunting the more I like it. Joe Bell ,the editor, seems like a real down to earth kind of guy. I like seeing this instead of stuff like "Editor emeritus, legendary bowhunter,M.R. James. Anyways, I like the way Bow and Arrow hunting presents articles and new gear segments. I see this gear and I feel like I'm looking at a heads up for something that really works and was used in the field instead of a sales pitch for an item that's made by a sponsor.

We're working of getting the word out, but as far as promoting it on other sites, that's going to have to be up to you, the individual member.
We mods and the admin have discussed this among ourselves and came to the conclusion that it wouldn't be ethical for the staff to promote ASN on other boards. It'd be kinda like a Ford employee walking into a Chevy dealership and passing out F-150 flyers to the customers.
Not that ASN staff won't talk about ASN on other sites if it comes up in conversation, but we can't activly promote it ourselves.
But like I said, if ASN members want to, it won't hurt our feelings. :PDT_Armataz_01_18:

So hard to get those here, that I have to collect outdated copies when I go to Austria or elsewhere to some archery shop that receives them... I'd also like to have some CDs, DVDs etc carrying those themes, but there are none. The last DVD I've watched is what I got with my new bow, a cocktail of ad and bowhunting scenes put together in "One" by Mathews.

I agree the ads are overwhelming, I wonder what the magazine price pays for if the advertisers are spending so much advertising... if you pay 5 bucks for a mag... and you can buy a paperback book for about that with no ads, ????????
