Tejas...maybe you could get ASN to sponsor us to accompany HH and FTH on their trip...purely business...you know...photographing/filming events and such for use on ASN...I'd love to go elk hunting some time....or moose, caribou, etc for that matter....

Good luck guys...hope you bring back some great stories...

Tejas, yes we're hunting Colorado together. We have'nt done anything except makeup our minds to go. We're hunting unit 751 just out of Durango. There are 3 guys from France that will be flying in to hunt too. I have to call my cousin in Albuquerque and have him send some maps. Imanut2 there's plenty of public land to hunt on, we're meeting up with Durocab1 and some of his friends from Texas.

I'm going to the BRS ''06'', are you

Steve, you guy's are going to love this trip :) ...... When I was younger back in 1990 I got to go to Colorado Elk hunting with a friend of mine, we hunted on foot the first year, horseback the next 4 year's...... I guess we all got busy doing different thing's and just quit going :( ...... I sure have some great memories of those trips and the beautiful country.
Not to many years ago, my son and I went with some friend's and rode our four wheeler's...... I had a great time that time also.
Here's a few pic's to get your fever up........and good luck........... WR

I hunt elk near Durango almost every year! Be afraid, be very very afraid! You WILL become addicted!

Bugling bulls and golden aspens, pretty intoxicating/addicitve.

There are lots of threads about what to do to get ready, but I will hit the high points:
1) Be in the best shape of you life, and then get in better shape
2) Do not skimp on any of these items:
Long johns: think wicking, not warmth. Its job in the mountains is not to keep you warm, but wick moisture from all the sweating you will do hiking around in the moutains. If you take cotton long johns, you will freeze!
Boots: Waterproof and no insulation or 2-400 grams only. Don't need more for elk hunting in september. However, I do take a second pair that are insulated. Don't use them 9 out of 10 trips. If I could have only one pair, they would be 200 grams thinsulate/Goretex.
raingear: I use lightweight packable. Can put it on over "layering" whenever you need it.
sleeping bag: 0-20 degree bag, probably synthetic. It is also important to be sure that the inner liner is very breathable. I bought a cheap bag years ago that had plenty of insulation, but didn't breate, so I sweated and then got cold.

If you are cold (hunting or sleeping), wet, or get foot blisters you will be miserable. DON'T SKIMP. All of the above stuff can be bought for around the price of your tag, and will serve you for years to come.

You may already know all this, but I leared most of it the hard way.
