I put my camera out last Wed. to see if any bucks were still carrying. I used a bag of corn to stop them. That is my biggest complaint about the Moultrie camera......trigger time is sloooow.
Anyway.......I ended up with 275 pics in 4 days :D Had four bucks that were still carrying and one that had dropped. I believe the one that has dropped was a nice 8 that had been traveling with this 7 pt. I had pics of both around the end of December.
The deer in the front of the last picture has dropped.
How long will they carry??

Arky they seem to be carrying real late this year for some reason. I was thinking here in Texas that it had to do with the drought conditions we had been experiencing but I just don't know why. Heck it's only a couple of month before growing season starts.

I see a few late one's each year.......but this year....it seems like the majority are late ???
Good news is.......they have found my mineral licks I put in about 6 weeks ago. They are hitting them pretty good. Now if the clover and chicory survived the 20 degree nights......they should have plenty of nutrition to replace the "bone" :D
When do they usually drop in TX.? I would think you guys would be a month behind us ???

Hey arky!! I was out last Friday shed hunting and spooked up a pretty good size buck still had both sides, Just wish I could have seen him at 20 or 30 yds with my bow last year. But it was always 85 and above. Still alot of them boasting their bling blings. You need to get a cuddyback (check spelling) :D

I need something better John.......just not sure which one.
I would like to have a couple good cameras. I don't think the wife would go for 2 cuddebacks :D
Maybe a his and hers pair :D :D

cuddebacks take an awesome picture, not only that you can view them on your TV. Sold a bunch of them last year and have seen what they do. I will own one this year as well. As for now the ole deer cam is out taking pictures of all them gobblers I will get to call in. Here Turkey Turkey. Think I am going to have to replace the turkey call as well. :new_rofl:

arky our horns are usually gone by the end of February. In the hill country they start dropping in December. Several years ago my brother and I went to a ranch in the hill country and he shot a deer about 300 yds across a canyon that we thought was a huge doe but turned out to be a buck that had already dropped. Depends on the area of the state you're in.

You guys won't believe what I found this afternoon. My wife let me out of the house for a while to go scout turkeys with a buddy. We were belly crawling a fence row that bordered a wheat field. I looked into the wheat field and saw what appeared to be a stick or antler. It was 100 yards away.
We agreed to check it out after we finished playing with the birds......we had seven strutting longbeards within 60 yards. All were big mature toms carrying 10"+ paintbrushes.......no joke. There were 4 in one group, two in another, and 1 single. We were surrounded......I hope it is this way in 3 weeks.
Anyways........it turned out to be an antler. When I picked it up, I knew immediately which deer he was. His G3 was broken. I wanted to check my mineral lick in the draw so we headed for the timber. We had taken about 20 steps when I noticed the other antler just inside the edge of the timber. It was a match :D These were found about 1/2 mile from where I had been getting pictures of him.

I don't know Nutter.......I usually only get lucky once or twice a year......now I've used one up :D

I think he will be a nice one next year......not sure if he will be a shooter. He has better mass than I expected, but his main beams run short and turn in sharply. Maybe my mineral licks will help him along :D

My daughter and I went out on the 25th and walked about 50 miles ! !! At least thats what I thought we walked , she said it was just a few ! SHE found a one year old shed that was off the buck my son killed this year and SHE also found a 10 point that had died . I couldn't believe how many scrapes that were still bein worked ! Melinda asked me dad what are all these dirt spots in a row ? Shows you that she has paid lots of attention to what I have talked about the last 20 years ! I did find one skull had a nice 3 inch spike on both side ! :D

Bob......did you have anything to do with the 10 pt's death ??? :D The shed from your son's buck is a nice find :icon_thumleft: Was the shed found in the same general area where your son shot his buck?
I noticed the same thing with the scrapes........they were being worked really late this year and were fairly large scrapes, maybe from being kept open so long.......strange year all the way around ???

The shed was about a quarter of a mile from where he killed him ! Just behind the old house , I think I have stepped over that shed 30 or 40 times in the last year ! The 10 point must of died from disease all his bones were right there ,yotes had not touched him and he had been there for some time . Bleach white bones no hair or skin left . No Brian there wasn't a goldtip laying in the bone pile !

I knew that.......just having fun with ya' :icon_razz:
I scored the right side of the sheds..........47". This surprised me. He had decent mass (4 2/8" base) , 7" G2's and his main beams were longer than I expected (18"). Not bad.......maybe he will make it for 2 more years. If he will stay on my side of the fence he will :)
