I do 75 % of mine post season winter scouting.
With the remaining 25% spread out through the rest of the year.

Post season is KEY for most of the scouting info and details I'm interested in! 8)

The majority of my scouting is Spring because I am turkey hunting and in the woods the most at this time, although I scout year round and use my trail cameras for areas I dont want to disturb to much.

I do as much a I can in the dead of winter, right up to green up time. Much easier to see them from a distance that way.

I do most of mine in the winter. Its easier to find trails and see old rubs.
Late fall early winter is really the most productive time of year. Once there's a little snow on the ground (for trackingback buck the their bedrooms) but before the deer start to yard up. As a rule they are still in fall (hunting season) patterns at this time of year.

I do mine mostly in January and February as I see where the real thick stuff is and I cant get into it during the summer months. So I will find the thick (security) bedding areas and plan from there.

My scouting time is split between post(late) season and late summer. I do alot of videoing of bucks during the late summer, cause that's when they're the most visible.

Almost time to get cracking. I won't start my winter scouting until bowseason ends. I don't want to bump any deer off the property untill the seasons over.

I would say its split pretty even, about 50% after the seasons during winter and about 50% during the late summer.

I normally do my scouting first off in the spring. We have alot of snow up here. My cabin is accessable only by boat in the summer, or snowmobile in the winter.
Although I could go scouting next week without even needing boots the way the weather has been. The light dusting of snow we had vanished this morning. It was 50 degrees today with rain.

Looks like 50% scout winter time the other 50% the rest of the year by the results so far.

Winter seems to be the best time. At least you know which bucks made it through the various hunting seasons.

Mostly late summer for me but I learn so much shed hunting as I did today Feb 25th. Found no sheds but did find a 10 pointer carcass. Still had some velvet on it and will score around 125. Was in a very rocky area just above the Mo River high water mark. Being where it was probably saved it from the rodents chewing it up. Hopefully I can post a pic of it soon.

Was out today...saw over a dozen deer...a couple very nice sized ones too...200lbs for sure....unfortunately...they are on Forest Preserve property....with no hunting allowed...but I just like to get out...enjoy nature...and try to take the kids with me too...
I always liked winter/early spring because you can see the lay of the land better, before all the foliage grows back...easier to see trails, rough terrrain, watering holes, bedding areas, etc
....haven't found any sheds yet :(

I do most of mine in march/april, before all the turkey hunters get out. but i'm usually out all year long. Found a couple sheds, nothing real big. Still hoping for the sheds off the big one dad and I saw a half hour before shooting time back in November.
