View Full Version : An introduction---and a question

Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself to the board. My name is Gene; I live in SE Pennsylvania and have been shooting for a little over one year. My main interest is 3D, but I plan on trying my hand at bowhunting this season. Also REALLY enjoy shooting in the backyard with my kids (they are 3 and 5 years old, so I do most of the shooting and they do most of the laughing when I miss:D). I've been reading this board for a while and have finally joined. Just too many questions bouncing around in my head to continue lurking.

I am just about ready to purchase my first Storm bow. The package deal at Hunters Friend is just too good to pass up. I am not very experienced in setting up bows, so I am VERY thankful for HF--they setup my first bow perfectly. But before I order the Elite I want to get opinions on the gear that comes with it. My question: they offer the Copper John Dead Nuts and the Viper Hunter sights in this package---what are your feelings on these sights? I have not used either and would be very interested in your opinions. Also, I have used drop away and shoot through style rests, but not a Whisker Biscuit. Since I shoot mostly 3D, but will be trying bowhunting this year, should I try the Biscuit or stick to what I know? Again all opinions are greatly appreciated.

Sorry to get long winded in my first post, and thanks for the great board.

Welcome, Gene, thanks for the intro!

Jump into any discussion you feel comfortable in, and enjoy the proceedings. We laugh a lot, and we put friendship, politenes and respect among sportspeople above everything else.

So, teach, ask, learn, query, and share a good joke among good folks!

Like Oldaro said, thanks for the great Intro :)
You've done your homework well. :icon_thumleft: Choosing ASN as your information Super Highway is probably the best decision you'll make all yeere! Much easier than deciding which rest, sight, stabilizer, etc. ...... There' s one thing you can count on from the ASN bunch. You'll ALWAYS get honest unbiased information from archers that have been around the block more than a few times. These guys and gals know what they're talking about....'cept Me of course :( I'm still a greenhorn too!

Sorry to get long winded in my first post, and thanks for the great board.

No need for apologies Gene. We all do it from time to time. Let me show you! :D
Whatever it takes buddy to help out another on heere. That's why we're heere. Whether it's a two word question or a two page question that has to be "dcedoed lkie Tnik and teh Hood's posts." :new_rofl:
Two men who have forgotten more about archery then I'll ever know! ..http://www.geocities.com/walleyejoe10/bow3.gif..Looked up to and well respected. Not to mention more than ready to give you the info you're looking for.

http://www.geocities.com/walleyejoe10/phew2.gif Let me catch my breath........

.
.
.
. ....Okay, now where did we leave off ???

should I try the Biscuit or stick to what I know?

..Oh yeah, you were askin' bout rests for hunting. I've only used two different rests in my limited experience. A TM Hunter prong style rest and a Quick Shot Whisker Biscuit. The WB, ...IMHO, has got to be the most reliable and worry free rest you can use. 100% satisfaction heere. Haven't tried drop aways or other style rests. Probably won't either. :eusa_snooty:

Also REALLY enjoy shooting in the backyard with my kids
That's great Gene! :eusa_clap: Nothing like getting some quality family time in while you're enjoying doing the things in life that help build character and self appreciation.
.....that is if you shoot better than Me. :BangHead: :icon_redface: :icon_rolleyes:

Alright, enough rambling.
THAT....was an example of Long winded. Who's next? :icon_arrow:

Welcome aboard Gene!

It's one of them days that nothing seems to go right....tried to post up heere a couple of times and my silly computer just won't co-operate with me. :( ???

Any way....Copper John and Viper make awesome products so which ever one you choose I am sure you will be happy with. I like my drop-a-way rest...but I haven't tried the WB.

These guys won't steer you wrong....they got lots of experience...and I'm sure they will share their toughts with you.

Great intro....aren't 3 and 5 yr old just the greatest! It won't be long before they are out there shooten with ya! :D

We'll all be hanging out here waiting to hear how you like that new ELITE!

Don't leave anything out....inquiring minds want to know every detail....and Pictures PLEASE! :D

Welcome Gene, Although I haven't tried one myself, a few here are shooting the Storm bows and really like them, I don't think you can go wrong there.

I'm a drop-away shooter myself, but have heard good things about the WB, it's all a matter of personal preferance. All three of the rest options will serve you well. The sight options are great as well, looks like a very good package deal.

I'm shooting the Trophy ridge and have no complaints with it. I think you will be happy with any configuration you choose.

Good Luck and post up those picture when you decide what your getting.

Nice first post Gene! Wish all folks would jump right in like you have there!

Congratulations on picking the finest bow around too! I don't have any experience with the WB either, though I have shot the GKF Shoot Out which is a similar full capture rest. I liked it a lot. For stalking of high wind conditions you can't beat the full capture rests.

Looking forward to hearing a whole blow by blow posting of how things are going as you decide and order your new bow, and then put it to the test when you finally get it!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Oldaro: not sure how much I can teach, but I've already learned a lot. Thanks for the kind words.

Walleye Joe: Thanks for understanding my run on paragraphs. I know what you mean about the depth of knowledge on this board. Reading some of the posts here makes me think I should sit in the corner and play with my crayons until the adults are finished talking :). Seriously though, I have learned much just by lurking (a good bit of it from the two fellas you mentioned). By the way, that's a SWEET fish in your avatar. What did that brute weigh?

Iterry: I understand completely your computer dilema--I keep a network of them running all day long. They can be downright ornery sometimes :D. Do you work for Storm? Just curios, as I have learned much about their products from your posts, so thanks for that. And yes, 3 and 5 are great ages. Amazing how fast they grow!

Bellows1: Thanks for the welcome, and I will certainly post some pictures once I have the bow in my grubby little hands. Also, thank you for your service to our country. We are what we are because of people like you!

Tejas Raz: Thanks for the reinforcement for the Storm. I shot a bunch of bows while I was making my decision, but I'm buying one I didn't shoot. But I don't think I'll regret it! Not to sound loopy or anything, but I just have a good feeling about this. I will certainly keep you posted on my progress. Again, same to you as to Bellows1--Thanks very much for your service to our country. My Grandfather's younger brother was a Marine in the Pacific Island campaign---talk about a tough SOB! My hat is off to all of those who served and are currently serving.

All: looks like I am sticking with a shoot through rest. I appreciate all of your input, but I think I am going to stick with what I know. And Copper John will be the sight I think. Going to go look at one today and make sure. If it's a 'go' I place the order tonight.

Thanks again for all of your help everyone.

Well, I can't really say I work for them....I do what I can to get the proper information out to archers who are interested in Storm. Now, I do have the inside track! :D My "better half" (as I call him) does the research and development for Storm....so it makes posting up in our tech forum a little easier. If I don't know the answer to someones question....I just ask ET! :D

Tejas Raz was one of the first to buy an Elite without shooting it. I'm sure if you were "lurking" around in the Storm Forum you have seen his posts. :)

If you have any questions...just post them up or PM me...I'll be happy to get you answers. :D

Now the big question.................have you got it ordered yet????

Gene
02-02-2006, 08:53 AM
Iterry--your "better half" and I share the same initials. I knew I had a good feeling about this bow!

And yes, I have in fact ordered the Elite from Hunters Friend. I was going to look at the Copper John sight on my way home today, but I just couldn't wait. Placed the order earlier this morning.

Here's what I bought:
Storm Elite
60# Draw Weight
29.5" Draw Length
NAP QT 3000 rest
Copper John Dead Nuts sight
Easton Excel arrows
Tru Fire Hurricane release

Now I just have to occupy myself for the next 10 days or so until it arrives.

Thanks again

Well Gene, I would say you made some good choices! :D

And........... Welcome to the Storm Family! :D

Tejas Raz

Yup Gene, think you made good choices. I stopped by Cabelas this afternoon and was checking out the Whisker Bizkits. I didn't think I'd like them much, but I could do one of them things... as long as it was the quick load model with the side opening. I used to have a CJ Dead Nuts Hunter on my last bow. One of the best sights for the money around! Well built, no plastic, bright pins and pin guard, easy to adjust, price is right.

You're going to like that bow! As Londa said, I took the gamble after talking with ET a good bit and haven't been disappointed at all!

OK now... we're waiting! :D (Like you're not, right?!)

For those of us that don't know, ET is?

Tejas Raz
02-02-2006, 09:25 PM
Ooops! Sorry Bill, it's secret Storm code language. We could tell you, but then we'd .... have to sell you a bow! :D

ET is Edgell Terry, Storm's Designer, lterry's hubby, and Former Marine Sgt. extraordinaire! 1961-1966 if my mind remembers correctly. Whenever I need help or just want to talk Jarhead stuff, I phone home... ET! :new_rofl: Speaking of which, it's been too long! Time to call soon.

He's the guy on the left in the first pic. And coaching the Elite 36 for a shooter in the second. He's a pretty durn good shooter too. Competes actively on the 3D circuit Senior classes. Seriously Bill, talking with Edgell is like taking a graduate level course in Archery, but where even a 3rd grader could understand it! He taught me a bunch of design theory. Very interesting man!

Tejas Raz.....Just in case you plan to call hooommme this weekend... :)

ET is on an unexplained mission :PDT_Armataz_01_12:

Somewhere over in Harrisburg, PA....

Seems like the mission had something to do with a "Sportsmans Show" :D

I heard something about hanging out with Rick at Viper Archery!

If I remember right.....it had to do with D-Loop Pliers.... :iamwithstupid:

Anyways...my informant seems to think he knows more than he is telling. :new_rofl:

Anyone going to the show can find him at Vipers Booth! :)

Hey..I bet he can talk Storm Bows or Viper Pliers! :PDT_Armataz_01_34:

Thanks Scott, Does Edgell play here as well? Just trying to put names to people and faces.

Another Jarhead? I thought it was "the few". :) ;)

Mr. Bill...

He keeps telling me one of these days....he's gonna get on this computer...

but so far...the most he does is tell me what to type. ???

I keep telling him he retired many moons ago...but I don't think he listons to good..

maybe he's hard of hearin' or somethin...cause he is busier now than he ever was when he

went to "work" everyday! :D At least then, he took a break at break-time and had lunch at the

same time....now I never know when to expect him! :D

But, I'll keep trying to get him to the computer :5bullwhip:

A little birdie told me that Gene's bow shipped out yesterday...(I wonder who that little birdie was??? :))

We are anxious to hear and see everything about it! Are ya really excited now???

KY to PA maybe two, three days....Friday????

Okay...that means we will be checking back here Monday and Tuesday.....I hope that gives ya enough time to open her up and get her set up just the way you want her! :D

Gene
02-16-2006, 05:43 AM
Yes indeed, that birdie is correct!

According to FEDEX, Friday is the day. I am actually thinking about calling out sick (cough, cough) and stalking the FEDEX truck :D We had 14" of snow from last weekends mini-blizzard, but enough melted for me to setup the targets in the yard.

This has been a LONG couple of days...

I'll write my review as soon as I've shot it. I'm really going to work on calming myself down...don't want to embarrass myself in front of the Elite!

By the way lterry, I picked up the wax you had mentioned. Thanks again for the info.

Gene

P.S. is there a FAQ for posting pictures? Thanks

Hi all my name is Ryan, I live in auburn IN, and i have just recently bought a new storm elite 32!
it is the best darn bow i have ever shot!!!! Actually i even slept with it last night, its the closest thing to a baby that i have right now! lol i love this bow. She is fast, quiet, smooth, and damn good lookin too! I named her Alexis but im not sure why, it just seemed to fit lol! Ne how i cant say enought about the storm staff they really know what they are doing. Edgell helped me set it all up, that is the smartest guy i have ever met, he taught me more about archery in a few hrs than ive learned about anything else my whole life, hes just Awesome! and i greatly appreciate all him and londa have done for me!! these arent people you get to meet every day, and definately not enough like them!! but ne how back to the bow this is what i got her dressed up in for when we go out!!
> shes got a sleek black riser w/ camo limbs
> black viper hunting sight with 3rd axis adjustment
>New quick tune pro series drop away rest
>Fuse 8" stabilizer
> limb savers
> and she really seems to like the 1/2 doz. Easton light speed 400 Arrows i got for her too!
Any ways guys & gals i hope to here from some of you soon! OH Yeah...................
and if some body out there could? They might wanna let MATHEWS know that they have been ''CAUGHT'' and TAKEN BY STORM!

Hey Gene...check out the Board FAQ on the Home Page here on ASN...I think there is some information regarding pictures there. I use my Adobe Photoshop6 to do mine in. I am not really good at getting them right yet, but I am working on it. When all else fails, post up your question in the FAQ area and someone will help you out. We got some really good tech guys here! :)

I'm better at Storm Bows than Computer Software! :)

Hi Ryan! :D I wondered who "paintkirby" was!

Welcome to ASN and the Storm Family

Thanks for all the nice comments :icon_redface: We just try to help those who ask...some can come here as they are close enough...others we work with over the phone or on the internet.

And you know ET, although he does the research and development for Storm, it dosen't matter what bow you shoot, if you have questions or need help he will do his best to help you out! :D
