i have a 03 bowtech patriot dually it had a peep with tube, bowtech hush kit one brass nock, and 3 speed buttons. i was shooting a 420 grain arrow and i was getting 261 fps. I took the tube and peep off and put a new peep with no tube and had the bow timed and now I get 281 fps. I was wondering if the tube and peep made that much of a differance? Does any body have any recomendations on getting a faster speed? And what is a good arrow to use i shoot Beman ics 340. The bow is set at 68 lbs. " HAVE FUN SHOOTING "

I'm not sure how the tube would affect the speed but the peep used with a tube is larger than a regular peep. Not sure of the weight difference between the two types but that seems to be a pretty good increase. 281 fps is pretty good speed.

Me and one of my freinds shot his bowtech blacknight today and with a 410 gr. arrow it shot 288 fps.
we then shot a 350 gr. arrow and he got 303 fps. and then shot a 300 gr. arrow and got it up to 329 fps. that is with the peep and tube. when we took it off it had no differance on the speed.
They are some fast bows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't have any advice for ya other than to keep tinkering...
....but are you sure you read the first chrono reading right? I find it hard to believe that changing the peep would give you an extra 20fps...is it possible that you misread the 8 as a 6 in the first reading...depending on the light and angle you view the readout...it's possible you misread...
As for arrows...many have their preferences..I normally use GT...but if I got a good deal on another brand...I'd probably give them a go...

It had to be getting it re- timed because it still shoots 281. before it was timed it got 261. thanks
Yaa might have picked up 3-5 fps with the removal of the tube peep, I'm sure the tuning gave the rest of the difference.
Lighter arrows will help with speed if that's what you want.
WR posted a thread last week covering the changes in speed with a good tuning and string setup.
WR knows all (http://www.archerysite.net/smf/index.php?topic=4413.0) Check it out sometime.

For combat calculations you get a change of 1fps in arrow speed for each 2 grains of change in arrow or string weight within 1 inco of the nocking point on the string. The further you move away from the center of the string the less effect the weight has on speed. As a mater of fact you may gain speed by placing weight on the string close to the ends (speed points).
Replacing the Tubed peep with a non-tubed peep can give you speed, depending on the weight of the peep you use.
Be careful shooting light arrows, they will just go through your arm faster when they blow up.

What is your draw length? IBO speed ratings are produced with a 70 lb. draw weight and a 30 inch draw length. Plus the have nothing on the bow but a drop away rest and a piece of string for a nock. They use a 350 grain arrow to get the speed rating, as long as you stay at 5 grains of arrow weight per pound of draw wight, you should get as fast of speed as your bow can produce at your draw length and draw weight. If you go below the 5 grain rating you could bend an axle or crack a limb as it would be like dry fireing the bow.
Welcome to ASN Hoosier!! Thanks for joining in, look forward to hearing from you again in the future, Post up.

Had a new string put on my Alpine Fatal Impact...at 67lbs...I shot a 367 gr arrow...and get pretty consistent 271 average....if I want more speed....I can actually cut my arrows down another couple inches (at about 8 grn per inch)...but I prefer them a little long so I can tinker with different drawlengths, rests, etc without needing new arrows all the time...
281 is a very good speed for a 420 gr arrow...

281 is a very good speed for a 420 gr arrow...
Yes it is.
My Allegiance shoots a 385 grain arrow at 296 fps.
