I used to hunt in Bradford, Pa right up next to NY, hunted near the Kinzu Dam and camped at the Koa out there close to the dam. Haven't hunted it for about 10 years, do any of you Pa guys know if there is still a good population of deer in that area. Great place to hunt and would like to go back next year, depending on if there is still alot of deer in that area. Thanks in advance, Dave

Dave, i've got family in that area. A cousin of mine works(or worked? he recently retired) from the Kinzu Fish Hatchery. He said he saw a fair amount of deer this season (mainly doe) but there are some nice buck around.

DBowers, congrats thats a beauty of a buck. I've been hearing lots of guys complaining about lack of deer this season, I would say this has been a banner year as far as big buck (although i have seen less doe). What do you guys think??

Thanks Pa Trophy Man, he was a gift for sure this year.
I gota agree with some of the guys, sitings were down in our area. We had seen alot of good bucks* and does over the summer, but didn't see nowhere near the quanities of last year. IMO I think its because there are alot more people in the woods now, the deer just get spooked and head for the hills.* * * * *

I do agree with you as far as doe sitings, there really down where I am too. PA (I think) has to really start managing by their zones. What I mean by this is if one zone has a huge doe population then that zone should have more doe permits. And vice versa on a zone that has a low population should have less tags.

They had adopted this zone and WMA deal from NJ and what I stated above is how NJ does it. And as sad as it is when I go visit friend and family in NJ (of coarse I got hunting there:) ) I never have a problem seeing a ton of deer..even on state land.
Just my oinion.
Understand what I am getting at?* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Yea, they deffinetly need to start some sort of micro-management plan for the state. They are still way out of whack number wise in some places, others they are taking out to many. I mostly hunt Zones 5b and 1a, with the majority of that being on public land. A few years ago (before Alts time) it was more common to see heards of 7-12 doe on a regular basis. Seems nowadays you might see a lone doe with a fawn or two. I understand they need to kept in check with regards to the buck population, but lets not go overboard. If they take it down to far, where its such a task to locate them on public land its going to disgruntle hunters (stop them from buying lisences) and send them to neighboring states. We all know how much the boys in the PGC hate loosing money

I always seen atleast 50 to 60 doe a year could of been the same ones don't know THIS year I seen MAYBE 20 MAYBE!
have seen more bucks. my thinking is if everyone takes a big buck all that will breed is the small spikes & four point buck & that is exactally what i'm seeing small BUCKS & SMALL DOE!

I've seen less deer on the whole this year but the bucks I've seen were alot nicer than in years past. The local buthcer's numbers were way down this year but the bucks he got in were incredible. I don't mind seeing less deer and working harded for meat, if I have a chance at a nice buck every year or 2.

Hey PA TROPHY MAN!! I am a Butler Native, Graduated Highschool in 1989. My entire family still lives in butler, I relocated to Elizabethtown after graduating college. I do miss the deer hunting out there. I had some honey holes. I live about 15 mins outside of Harrisbur, Pa. AMISH Country.........Lancaster Co. Nice to see someone from my home town on the boards. Nice deer by the way.

I took this buck on Oct. 12 2004 less than 10 minutes from Harrisburg. He green scored 110 prior to deductions. By all means, he's no state record, but this is this biggest one I have ever shot. Hope this picture posts.

Frank, your right... Sure can't complain about the hunting in the butler area, lots of nice buck around. Although i have seen less doe this year, the buck have been incredible as the buck i shot was one of the smaller ones i had been seeing (couldn't resist dropping the string on him though ) Nice buck, passthru.
