Now the story!
First of all I ended up staying at the ranch all by myself because none of my friends were able to make it. I fired up the pit ate dinner and was kinda tired after a long day at work so I figured that getting some early shut eye would be good, and besides that, there was nobody else to speak to and no cell phone reception. I spent a good while praying and then it was lights out for the hopes of harvesting my first animal with my bow. The story that is untold is that I had a MONKEY on my back and I have been bow hunting for about 4 years now and without a harvested animal. I also of course didn't have to many opportunities since I hadn't had my own lease. Now that I do, I go when I feel like going and get the chance to hunt much much more. I owe the credit to my brother Donnie (Thanks my brother) for getting me started in bowhunting. I LOVE IT!!! Ok, so on with the story. I got up at 5:45 got all dressed up and left camp at about 6:25 a.m. 6:40 I got to my ground blind and light was about to come up. I park get down to get the bucket of sour corn I had made to put out when I hear the pigs already there under the feeder. CRAP!!! I thought I would scare them off walking to the blind as the feeder is only 22 yards from the blind. I walk up to the blind, F-28 in hand, flashlight *and sour corn bucket in the other. I put the bucket down, shine the light right under the feeder where I can see the sillouette of about 18 nice pigs and many piglets more. They look at me, I look at them, move the light a bit and see the horses spinning the plat of the feeder and pigging out! ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!! Stupid horses! All the corn that the horses were missing was falling to the ground and the pigs were going at it. I'm kinda mad because I had just fixed that hangin feeder and it was up high so I could tell why it was so low again. I unzipped the blind, made all sorts of noise getting in, set up and sit down in my chair and unzip my window to shoot. Low and behold all fo the pigs were still there!!!! WOW!!! It was still to dark to shoot so I waited and hoped that they would stay just long enough for me to get a shot. 7:15 rolls around and the sun is coming up just enough for me to see the pigs. The one I was eyeing went broadside on me and I said to myself...."self, this is it, just relax and get this stupid MONKEY off your back once and for all and claim your first bow kill" I draw back on my Storm F-28. The smoothness of my bow always brings a smile to my face :O) As I am about to squeeze off, the pig moves so I re position and then let fly. I heard nothing, felt nothing, and before I could even think about whether it was a good shot or not, I saw the arrow hit and heard the scream. She went 2 feet..... STRAIGHT DOWN!!!!! :O) my favorite kinda kills... no walking necessary!!! With that, my first bow kill occurred and I officially became a bowhunter! I finally graduated!!!! *Going back this weekend and hoping for the big boy whitetail!!!!!
As for the feeder, we had a storm with nasty rains and winds come in the night before and the pully broke. Thank God I used a safety harness!!! I saved myself money and a headache. Only problem is, I don't know if I am going to hand it any more. I think I will rig it up with legs and T-post it down. I'm sick of these stupid horses.
Well, there you have it.
