what is your intended use of your bow? no doubt WC strings are well made but that's alot of money to buy a lighter string that doesn't stretch or to not have to spend a few days breaking one in.

I was wanting to ask a similar question myself. I have read on another forum that Vapor trail strings were good? They stated that they were made from same material as winners choice, but half the cost. Just wondering if that was true?

fatmanhunter: I bought a set of ultra cam string and cables for my Darton Typhoon, they have worked out really good for me. Lots of colors to choose from and he has 8125 also. A guy on AT makes them, his handle is gipper. Very good quality and reasonable.

I use Pro Strings and cables from Pro String, Sheldon is a great guy, he makes top notch products, he used to work with Vapor Trail but split of from his brother at Vapor Trail and started his own business, give him a try and tell hiim Dennis Sent you. He will fix you up with whatever you want at a good price.

I would recommend looking into the GAS strings also. You cant really beat the Brownell materials that Eric uses and his extensive knowledge and close ties with Tim Strickland of Brownell and Hoyt surely make him an expert craftsman on the string building process. Plus the guy is just like one of us and is out there shooting elbow to elbow with everyone on the tournament trails. Lets keep our money where it belongs.....archers supporting archers.

We've tried Winner's Choice, Pro Strings (several sets), GAS, One Shot and a few others. We prefer the awesome quality of Crackers (Mike Carter) above and beyond them all! Mike uses BCY and has the best price and turn around you could imagine!

Check him out because you won't be sorry. His strings are great for hunting, 3-D and indoor.

there really isn't much out there other than DSM dyneema which is what BCY and Brownell make their stuff out of. You normally have two choices (if you want something other than fast flite) and that is whether you want a dyneema VECTRAN blend (ultra cam, 450 or 452) or a pure Dyneema string (D75 or 8125 or D75 thin etc).

the pure dyneema strings are generally slightly faster-especially on one cam long string bows since its lighter than the blends. However, 8125 does creep some initially. What people are paying big bucks for is pre stretched 8125 so they have a string that doesn't take 300 or so shots to settle

for most people-almost every hunter and most spot shooters, the vectran blends are just fine.

many people can make very good strings. The string makers mentioned all do good work but so do many guys you never hear of and if you are willing to spend a couple days shooting your 8125 string you will probably be able to get one for 15-20 bucks that performs as well as the high priced jobs mentioned here.

most of the top recurve shooters shoot stuff they tie themselves and it really doesn't take too much time to learn how to tie a very good string-especially if you allow it to sit on the jig for a while so that all the strands even up in tension (which is what I do for the tournament shooters I tie for)

I make my own strings using BCY 452X.

For those of you who are not so inclined; I recommend Gas Strings.

Eric Griggs knows what he’s doing.

Sorry if I sound stupid, fairly new to archery. But what is the difference between these string materials? Which one would work best for me? I'm shooting a hoyt ultra mag at 66#,and 27 inch draw. I mainly hunt with it but shoot 3d in off season to practice, and have fun. bcy,brownell,8125,450,452,d75 sombody help make sense of this, don't want to pay big money if not necessary. thanks for any replys

The BCY 452X has no stretch if made correctly. It is a great all around material. The 8125 stretches and from my personal accounts the 8125 takes many shots to "shoot in" and then once you get comfortable with it it stretches again. There is a material called TS1 that is supposed to be faster but that stretches as well. I have tried it and do not recommend it. It gets fuzzy. I personally am shooting a BCY 452X string made by Crackers and he is so meticulous about his strings and he has a few secrets about how to make them even better. Once we put my peep in, it hasn't moved from the first shot I put through it. I am totally impressed. I have never had that from any other string maker I have used, but I am not saying they aren't there. It's kinda like a Ford and Chevy thing, a matter of personal preferences. :)

I have only used WC and have had good success but I wouldn't be afraid to try GAS or Berry.
