Let me hear from you. I didn't know DonDeere did until I read his post on the ASA web site. Now I don't feel so all alone on here.

All I have ever shot was pins...but I think I am making the move this year. Getting a little older and the scope sure does help...shooting WAY better than I ever have before. I expected maybe a couple of extra X's, but was surprised to see such improvement...man I hate getting old!

I switch it up, according to which class my group will be shooting in.

I like dialing the scope in.

I have tried the open class about 3 times but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I think it's because every time I shoot an open setup I go to a hand held release and I have determined I am an index only man. I may get a cheap set of dial in's from my dealer just to tinker with again but I will always use pins for serious comps.

I have shot pins for as long as I can rember. I shoot scope indoor but pins outdoors. I can shoot the same scores either way so I chose to stick with pins for comp. Copper John Dead Nuts Pro all the Way. Junkie

I shoot pins. CR scope housing with an up pin, minus the lense, mounted to a Davis system target sight for indoors. I shoot a Davis system sight with a hunter pin guard and 5 pins outdoors.

I guess I should have told my sight, PSE F22's with 6 pins.

I thought about shooting pins for comp, but I really like open class, my buddy wants me to shoot hunter class with him and now I dont know what to do, I have my Mag sight 3-Dpro on my target bow now with a 6X lens I love Power.

Gander since I don't know you I am going to say the following. If you are good in the open class you are better off staying there. You have more options at the nationals. Since I have only shot one ASA shoot I have the option of shooting Open C, Hunter or Unlimited. I am going with Open C or Hunter. Once I am in Unlimited I am there for life.

With an Open set up you can shoot C, B, A, Semi, Pro, Open seniors, Open senior pro. Now I could shoot all those classes but I can't compete with Open shooters with pins.

pinshooter......Might as well make the Unlimited your class.......My first ASA was in that class and it was great.....PLus you get to talk to DD...... 8)

The only trouble I have is gapping pins, it is just not normal fo rme plus I havent done it enough, I want to be competitive and these days it is hard, there are some awesome shooters out there, but I have time to play and make my decision before spring.

I shoot pins basically because they allow me the most versatility. See I hunt and shoot competitions with the same equipment. And since there isn’t time in Buckmasters to dial a scope in, I just stick with pins. Gapping has never been a problem for me. I shot in the Open A division last year in ASA with my pins and will be shooting in the MBO division this year in IBO with pins. I also use the same release for all the different types of shooting I do. However, if a person is willing to work at it, any release can be shot with back tension.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who enjoys shooting pins.:D

Oh yea....I shoot Copper John Dead Nuts Pro III with .019 pins. Ain't had any problems with them.

Pins, always have, and probably always will. I enter quite a few tourneys in the open close, even if I am under equipped. :D

I shoot pins normally for competition in IBO (MBR), but shoot a scope/sight setup for fun during my outdoor winter league starting in January...brrrrrrr! :o

I go back to pins the end of March.

I guess I ahve plenty of time to decide, and play around with different set-ups.

The only thing I don't like about the unlimited is not enough people shoot it. I have a lot better chance of winning something in C or hunter. Plus since I am shooting all PSE products this year I am in the running for a lot of contingency money while still shooting in a class with a 40yd max. You will probably see me sometime later on, just as soon as I limit out in the hunter. But with only shooting 2 ASA's a year it might take me a while.

Enlighten me Rob, what are the stipulations in the unlimited class, and yardage? I have my bow set up for open class now with my new sight from Mag sight Products, and I love it. :D

LX_Shooter™
12-10-2004, 08:46 AM
50 yards max and anything goes except dail up sights.....

pinshooter........That Hunter class and OpenC class has alot of sandbaggers in it.........Be better off in Unlimited atleast you know yoy have me and DoubleD beat...........And more than likely the"Rob"........

pinshooter
12-10-2004, 09:48 AM
Yeah there are some sandbagers but looking at the scores turned in for the unlimited I will probably take my chances in the hunter. It will take about 10 up to win the unlimited. As far as beating you guys I seriously doubt it. I don't everyones real name so its hard to look their scores up but they would have to be a bad shot not to beat me. :)

Another reason I want to shoot one of those two classes is because I want to shoot all my targets on one day. Usually one of those classes will.

I am thinking about shooting pins this year and getting out of the open class and the longer yardage and shoot the hunter finger class I am thinking about using my Cooper John dead nuts 3 pin hunter. The IBO yardage is approximately 35yards, maybe set at 15, 25 and 35, or get another pin and have 10 20 30 and a 35. Any suggestions???? Sounds like alot of fun to me.

pinshooter
12-10-2004, 07:49 PM
If it were me I would set them on 20, 30, 35 and 40. You won't see enough difference between 10 and 20 to merit having an additional pin at 10yds or between them. I always set a pin farther then I plan on shooting. It helps your accuracy greatly if you spend time at longer distances.

I am swaying towards Hunter class, because hunting is what I do and I am also videoing all my hunts and will have a video out next summer on bowhunting and 3-D so I will have my camera or I mean my wife will have my video camera in hand videoing me and others I might make you all famous. 8)

But you cant vidoe tape or take pictures on the range's...I am pretty sure about that but they may have changed it

I hear you. I don't know if they ever will. I wonder if the ASA will ever have a pro pins class. I know the subject has come up on their web site before.

I did last year. I shot my first ASA last year at Roanoke and we got lost. We didn't show up until about 9:00. The ASA let us shoot our targets but we had to shoot with the women. Didn't bother me.

I shot pins for many yrs.

But now my eyes are so lousy I had no option but using a scope as my eyeglasses. :(

I do not need a peep or clarifier - just the scope lens (2X) did it.

I was a died in the wool pin shooter for years, but this year I bought a scope and a sure-loc and went to the open class just to try it. I have a new Ultratec waiting to be picked up down at the shop for 3D and am unsure as to what I'm going to put on it as far as a sight. :? Pins or scope, pins or scope.......arrgh ](*,)

I am a pins guy sometimes. I shot the hunter class and MBR class at a couple IBO shoots. Inddors I usually shoot both Freestyle and Bowhunter Freestyle. I enjoy pins indoors because it is not my regular class so I tend to have a lot more fun with it.

...HILLBILLY...I can't imagine ever going back to a scope!!...I tried a scope for indoor once!! ...the simplicity is what keeps me shooting pins 8)

...the only mistake you can make in Archery...is not shooting at all

...check out all the different "pin models" out there...there are some that are much better than others for "industrial competition" ...

...I shot my plain ole hunting rig with a $7.50 TRU-GLO pin sight I had bought on clearence at WAL-MART...I spanked a good number of shooters with their $100.00 sights  ...
