How did all you Ohio bowhunters do this year? Let hear what you got and where your from in Ohio. My self I got a doe early on and a big bodied 8 pointer during the rut and still intend to fill my other tag. I live in Hocking County just a few minutes from Old Mans Cave.

I'm not from Ohio but I've have been seeing some real bruisers coming from there.

Really is a great whitetail state.

I have seen alot of brusiers this year myself, mostly other hunters at the checking station, from my stand this year I seen one really wide, tall tined bruiser, guess him to be a 160-170 class, and one nice dark racked 8 pointer that probably will make 140 anyhow, the other bucks I seen were mostly 18 month forkhorns, a few 2 1/2 year old six pointers, small, my 8 pointer was a 3 1/2 year old, his rack was small, alot of places in Ohio not really too far from here a 3 1/2 year old would have had a much bigger rack. The genes in this buck imo were not very good, and may have been a good choice to take out. Any opinions on this.

I have just taken a doe, so far. But i havn't given up on a buck yet. There is a 140 class 8 point running around on my hunting grounds. I'm from Cambridge, (guernsey county) 80 miles east of columbus.

buckeyebuckhntr. Nice buck man. That is a great picture also. I took a picture of my doe and 8 pointer this year but do not have a nice poseing shot like you have your deer in. Hanging pole pics aren't real nice to show imo. Great deer you got there. Hopefully next year I will get a real bruisier and will take some nice pics.

Dave, I hunt in Hocking county also!!!! I actually live about 2 1/2 hours North of Hocking but we have had permission to hunt a farm there for 30 years now. Well my dad starting hunting there around 30 years ago and I have taken a week of vacation to hunt there every year for the last 14 years.

I only hunt with a bow and this year my son started hunting with me using a crossbow. He is 11 years old and is too small to shoot 40 lbs. on his Micro Midas compound so I liked the idea of him using a crossbow instead of taking him gun hunting. My goal this year was to get him a deer and we were quite successful. Some of these guys from the hunting.net forum have already read the story so I will not go into great detail. Basically we were sitting in the same tree in back-to-back stands and I watched over my son's shoulder as he put a perfect shot on a mature buck at 16 yards for his first deer in his first year of hunting. I have taken several nice deer in Hocking but I was more pumped up watching him shoot this one than if I had shot it myself. Here is a pic:

I love hunting in Hocking County because it has such beatuful terrain with the hills and rock formations and it also has it's share of mature bucks.

Blodg: That is a great story and a great ending for your son to harvest this nice buck. It is good to hear of someone so close that lives near Hocking county and hunts there all the time. Congrats to your son. He is bustin with pride in the pic, nice. Keep in touch here on the site. Will check out the site and look up some of those other bucks.
