I am trying to confirm a report from home (Savona) of a cougar being shot and killed over in the Addison area. Supposedly there was a picture in the paper or something? Does any one know anything about this? Ken

There was a pic in our local paper that there was a big mt. lion found dead near New Boston, Illinois during our gun season! My Dad cut out and saved the pic, it's body was as long as the tail gate of the truck it was in! I'll scan it off next time I'm over there. It's hard to believe that they are showing up everywhere, especially here in farm country?!? I would LOVE to have one walk past my deer stand! :D

Cornfed: That would be a pretty sight from the trestand, I just hope he don't look up at me with dinner on his mine.

A good website to check out for information on cougar sightings, etc. is To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. The latest update on the website is dated 12-07-04 concerning a confirmed sighting of a male cougar in North Dakota near the Minnesota border.
I got the website address from an article written by Dennis Aprill, Outdoors Columnist for the Plattsburgh, New York Press Republican newspaper (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.). He wrote an interesting article for the Sunday edition (12-12-04) concerning "Big-cat comeback?". He talks about two employees from the local television station reportedly spotting a huge cat in the northern Adirondacks in an area close to my camp. Mr. Aprill is an extremely talented outdoor columnist. He's about the only reason I subscribe to that particular newspaper.
So the question remains, not IF, but WHEN will a documented case of an actual "born in the wild" mountain lion be made in NY?

Coyotes are bad enough in the woods here if we had cougars to I would definately carry my handgun with me while bowhunting for sure, that is kinda scary if you think about it, walking to your stand and having a cougar tracking you? No thanks to that one.
