Ken-

Once TAP us purcahsed whether it is CD or download....the yearly update/license is $20.00 and that is all.

So for example: If you buy a CD today you will pay $60.00. All upgrades are free until Novemeber 30th 2005. Next decemeber if you want upgrades then it will cost $20.00 to stay up to date till the following November 30th.

Hey Ken,
This is a great program, and Tony is great to deal with. The program works great for experimenting with different arrow weights and figuring speeds. Helps eliminate problems with setups before we can create them in real life.

Tim I have no doubt it is a great program. I do have some other problems with the logistics of it that I'm sure Tony would rather not have to discuss on here! Ken

Let's throw it out there......What problem do you have?

Tony since you gave me the green light! :D

When I buy the program from Archers Advantage it only costs me $69.00 for a one time purchse all of the updates are free of charge. So from my wallets stand point the AA is a better deal than the Tap program. Ken

Ken-

I am not 100% sure about AA but I think he does indeed have an upgrade fee?

It is a simple matter of economics that most software mfg's have to address. Free upgrades for life are simply going to be a thing of the past. The amount of time etc....compiling databases....adding new features.....this things have to be chargeable or we go out of business! Simple as that.

For the modest cost of my upgrade you will always have the latest and most up to date that is available.

Think of this way.......I will give a few examples....
Virus software.....most if not all have updates required every year to stay up to date.
Windows....want an upgrade? There is a fee
and most all other software that I have purchased anyhow is limited time. There is no need to update though.....

If what you have works then TAP will work as long as it is on the computer...it doesnt just run out.....

Thanks for the feedback Ken...

Tony like I said it's probably not what you wanted to discuss on here but until AA starts to charge me 1/3 the cost of the program every year to add new shafts as they come out then I will just stay with them.
Hope I can run into you some time this year and buy ya a beer for a one time fee of course. :P Ken

I can respect with that with no problem at all. A beer would be good sometime....but I'LL buy! :D

Although I have recently ordered your program, even though I have AA, I do find a $20 per year update to be a hefty fee when its 33% of the purchase price. Although 20 bucks ain't much these days. Is the 20 bucks fixed or subject to year to year increases? We shall see................ck

Clay-

Tap's updates or licensing runs from Dec 1 thru Nov 30th the following year regardless of when purchased. So in your case all updates made to TAP are free until the end of november next year. $20.00 is modest compared to other softwares on the market that require continual database upgrades etc.

The amount of time consumed by me updating the data is huge!!! It takes me FAR more time to keep the databases up to date than it does to write the program itself!!

I realize that my competitors don't have these upgrade costs at this point in time, and initially I didnt either...(years ago) but as fast as TAP grew I realized very fast that the market is small, and I knew I had to do something to keep TAP alive. Think of it this way.......lets say every archer in the world bought TAP this year and I didnt have a upgrade fee....how long do you reckon I could maintain all of the updates with no income coming in to justify the time? That is the reasoning and logic behind the licensing fees.

Here's a good analogy that I can't take credit for........(somone whom read this post emailed me this)
Can you call Hoyt or Mathews or Martin and get a new cam for your bow that you bought last year because this year they have a new cam?

It's purely a matter of economics and staying alive in todays economy!!!

I like my program. It fufils more than my expectations. I can understand a upgrade fee since new equipment gets made all the time. Tell me if I am wrong though. I bought mine last June. As long as I don't buy any brand new bows(2005) models or arrows like GT 30x then I really don't have a need to update at this time. Is that correct? Also ,Do the upgrades go into detail of what all they contain prior to purchasing?

I also think the upgrade fee of $20 per year (33% if initial cost) is to much.

Tony, I would think more people would actually upgrade if it were less. If a guy has even a few bows he probably doesn't really use it all that often.

I am also a little mad that I didn't do the final upgrade to 5.6.6 (I'm at 5.6.0). Most people don't use the program everyday so I'm sure alot of people also missed out on upgrades. I can understand and live with the fee, but I should be entitled to the last upgrade before Nov 30th.

AA will also charge an upgrade fee. I think I paid $35 dollars when the AA versions changed. It was a major rewrite. I don't think AA has charged for updates for the last 2-3 years.

Having used both TAP and AA. You will not always get the exact same results from both programs. I trust TAP more and prefer to use it.

PJ-

I can get you 5.6.6 no problem....email me through the web and I will make sure you get it. The upgrade path in the program should have explained this on the webpage.

I have to have an upgrade fee for this that makes this program worth the time necessary to keep it alive. This year especially TAP has actually had almost a 50/50 upgrade ratio.....much more than last year.

Thanks for the input and make sure to get me an email so I can get you version 5.6.6

Thanks,

I noticed Hoyt 2000 is missing from the bow list.* I loaded the latest bow and arrow tables last night.

That has been on my to do list for some time.....I will now see if I can get those numbers from Hoyt....visiting them at the ATA helped.....
