View Full Version : Fingers Forum
Hey Admin how about a forum for finger shooters. I know that on AT when I have a finger related question I have to monitor it heavily or it will be on page 2 in no time at all. Just a thought on for a new site.

Post it up on the Traditional Forum BugZ.
We'll take on Compound shooters that shoot fingers too.
Much easier to keep up with there.
How many gurus in traditional are compund shooters? I moved from shooting a release to shooting fingers and I find the art of fingers with a compound dying. Just a thought.

I shoot compound also... with a release mostly.
We ought to get Hollowpoint over here. He shoots compound/fingers exclusively.
Don't forget all the Bowfishing crowd. They're all fingers.
Thanks Tejas Ray for the info. I am meeting hollowpoint at the Idaho Open this weekend. I seem to be into target archery now more than hinting and I am getting really frustrated with my form right now. The good shooters in the club are all release and the one good release shooter in the area doesn't talk much. I'm just a little frustrated tonight.

I was reading about some brothers I think it was who shot 3D. They'd switched to fingers because the class was smaller and for the challenge. Seems like it was the IBO section of Bowhunting World in the last couple of months. I liked the sound of their reasoning. Besides, it's more fun to be outside the lines!

same with us olympic style shooters-I remember people shooting recurves with releases at vegas a few decades ago but I haven't seen any in the last 15 years save for one guy who hurt his hand
Yea it's more fun to beat friends who shoot releases with your fingers. I also know that in the local area inj the last 5 years I have helped bring the finger shooters up in points by at least 50 points.
The brothers you are talking about are the Gozas... Great guys- Awesome Limited shooters. As soon as I get feeling a little I'll make a couple of calls and let them know about our site.

Yea. That's them. It was a good story. Apparently, very good shooters!
It'd be nice to query their thoughts on finger shooting.
Thanks guys now here's another question. Who are the top finger shooters for Hoyt? Before I get flamed here I am asking because people shooting the bow I am with finger may have had the same road blocks and tuning problems as I do.
Ivory so you think you know me? Think again. He he he.

Not many of us finger shooters around any more . The man that got me started shooting fingers put a hook on this summer and he had been a finger shooter for over 30 years !

Shot fingers for years and then switched over to the release and have been shooting it for about 10 years. I like shooting fingers alot and this year I am going to try the Hunter Fingers Class. At least see if I can hit anything, getting tired of shooting in the open class and shooting the long distances. I will still also shoot my release bow. I think finger shooting makes you a better release shooter and vice versa, seems if I am in a slump with my release, shooting fingers for awhile makes me have a much crisper release for some reason. Thats just me I guess.

Hoyt's best finger shooter-probably the best finger shooter in history (along with Darrell Pace) is Butch Johnson. Best compound finger shooter who ever lived-one of the five best recurve shooters in US history
I'm looking into getting a back tension release which I can use on my finger bow for a little specific back tension workout. I want to stay in the finger classes as long as possible and it is fun winning against release shooter with fingers. I started shooting with a release then went to fingers for the challenge and the headache and the frustration.
Jim C do you know if Butch Johnson comes on here?

Does anyone come to anchor with 3 fingers, then release with one finger under. I have heard the pro fingers guys do this, but I am not sure, anyone out there shoot this way and have sucess at it. Presently I shoot with two fingers under, but would like to get some advice and techniques on the one finger under method. Thanks in advance, Dave
I know one guy who shoots with one finger under. I have thought of it but the real problem would be with the weight exerted on your finger. If you can hold it steady enough and for long enough time then try it. Less contact with the string the less variances on string movement there is. That is why releases are more accurate than fingers. You have about 3/16 of contact with the release and between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches of contact with two fingers.
I shoot fingers with compounds, recurves and longbows........works for me..........especially when my site broke hunting.........I took the ram any way bare bow compound.

How have you all got your bows setup when you go back and forth with fingers and release?

Hey, guys
If it's about fingers, I'm here, also.
Dude how do we finger flinger's bribe or threaten release shooters to give up the handicap and join the fun. :D
I was talking with Reo and some other top relewase shooters at the Idaho Open and I started talking about how I was first and last and he just laughed and said I was a dying breed. Come on guys we need to kick this dying dog back to life. :D

I'm going to stick this in the Traditional forum ya'll. Any questions will be more likely to be found over there rather than hunting through pages when this thing starts hopping fast.
