At the recommendation of some of the members here I decided to try a offset counter-weight on my Pro 40 Dually. The cheapest one I could find at Lancaster was $19.99 + shipping, which I think is a little excessive for a 5 inch piece of metal, so I decided to make my own.

The bracket is made from a old collet wrench from a Crapsman router that went to the graveyard a while back. One end already had a hole of the correct diamater and was rounded off. I cut the other end of it off with a 4 inch grinder and rounded it off on the bench grinder.

The hardest part was drilling the hole. I don't know what kind of metal it was, it looked like it was just stamped out of 1/8 sheet metal, but it was pretty hard stuff. I thought I would punch right through it, but I smoked the bit. After I dialed the speed on the drill press down, got out the cutting oil, and ran the bit through the Drill Doctor I got through it pretty easy.

After the hole was cut I knocked the sharp edges from th grinding off and roughed the surface with a piece of sandpaper, then gave it a shot of black paint.

I already had the bolt and the adapter in my parts box and the counter weight is a cheap 8 oz Cobra Stabilizer I picked up on clearance at Wal-Mart about 2 years ago for no other reason than it was marked down to $1.00.

The only thing I didn't have on had was 3 star washers and a 5/16 fine thread nut which I got at Home Depot for a total of $.22.
