I think most people here will remember me posting about the tournament we did on Thanksgiving day. The other day the Battalion Command Sergant Major payed us a visit at our temporary home here in the green zone and we discussed the upcoming Christmas tournament.
We came up with the idea for the Thanksgiving tournament at the last minute and as a result several of the shooters couldn't be there due to other commitments and missions. Word didn't get out in time for spectators either. This time were going all out. I'm going to post flyers at the chow hall and pass them out to units to put on their bulletin boards. I'm gonna speak to all the chaplins and have them put it out in their portions of the weekly Command and Staff meetings too.
For the Thanksgiving tourny we shot in the morning and were finished by lunch. This time some of the brass will be stopping by to watch but will only be able to be there from 1-2 pm. Last time it took 3 hours to get everyone shot and we expect more shooters this time. Although we will have more lanes open there's no way we can get everyone done in an hour. What we plan to do this time is have the tourny in the morning. The top 5 shooters will then shoot in a shoot off starting at 1 pm, that way we can have something for the brass to watch.
Also, the last time SSG Alejandro was the only traditional shooter and he shot with the compound shooters. He's since gotten several soldiers hooked on traditional so this time were gonna run 2 classes, traditional and compound. I expect about 20 or so shooters in the compound class and about half a dozen in traditional.
An AT member has been good enough to provide gift certificates for Lancaster Archery as prizes. He hasn't said if he wants to be named or not so I'll refrain until I check with him. I'm also thinking of awarding the overall winner a bow. I thought that would be appropriate since its the biggest and last major shoot of the deployment. When I get back to the states I'll send one of my setups over to replace it so the club isn't out anything.
We're going to shoot a NFAA 300 round and maybe do some novelty events afterwards if there is time. I expect some relatively high scores also. A couple of the members have broken 290 in their league scores and several more are shooting in the 280's.
If anyone has any ideas for some Christmas themed novelty shoots that are don't reqire any special equipment please let me know.
When the time comes I'll post the scores and some pictures.
