Well, here would be the right place for your ideas, the ones gestalted from your archery practice, or maybe the ones you'd like to see in the archery shops, or simply the experiences you'd like to share with the bowyers' community.

As thousands of archers cope daily with tiny little problems, they discover thousands of tiny little solutions. These aren't just temporary values. Some of those ideas, whether they arrived on impulse, or have grown out of hours and days of thinking, could save the day for someone else.

When you're fresh out of plastic target nails, but there's this bag of iron nails in the toolbox...

Good idea would have never thought of that for target holders.

Okay, I see you've been petrified so far. That's why I continue with petty stuff only.
:)

I forgot to point out on the BackVisor sketch, that it has been constructed for only those bows that have their cableguard between sight mounting points and the handgrip, such as Mathews BlackMax. It is NOT suitable to be mounted on the movable (Jennings) type or those cableguards that emerge under the handgrip.

Really nice ideas, congratulations!

At this time I have nothing compared to yours!

And for sure I will give a try to the center align one.

Here's one that will keep you from punching yourself.... (sorry, no pics)...

I've found the best way to get a D-loop tight is to insert a pair of needle nose pliers into the loop (jaws closed). Place one side against the string and pull the pliers open. This will set the knots without you having to draw your bow.

If the knot is gonna slip, it's much better to find out this way...... :D

Hey, I like that Center Shot idea. :eusa_clap:. I'm going to cut an old arrow and see if my eye ball tune is close. :D

Thanks, gentlemen, here's some more. I know you all have some of your own stuff, and I'm trying to get you to open up and make this line quite a lot better than one-man-show. Or show-off, that'd be worse.

Sometimes you have a problem, and the solution emerges by itself. Other times, you do not have money, or there isn't anything to buy similar to what you need. And there are also those times when you know that your version is better. Whatever the reason, you manage to gear up the best way you can imagine, or you're not happy.

The idea is also that we, the archers, should suggest to the manufacturers what we'd like to see on the store shelves, and not just gobble up whatever falls from the drawing board. More often than decently allowable, we get offered the old painted new, re-packed, and with ads re-written. And the best solutions should provide us with the best of products.

If anyone decided to use some of my ideas to produce an item for sale, I'd be satisfied if I got one or two examples of that thing for my personal use, or whatever that manufacturer thinks it's fair to give me in way of compensation. Thus, we'd also see who's appreciating whom. And my personal experience in that field is, well, I'm not happy.

:)

Releases at one time were my silent passion... And I have always admired the simple, direct, and lifelong design of a Stanislawski mechanism. But the d-loop head was a bit complicated, so I tried to imagine the simpler one... mainly for hunters and 3D shooters. It has the same delightfully small number of parts.
The other one is handle-based, but employs the halfmoon principle nevertheless...

And some more.

Here's how to get rid of the cableguard.

As you all know, the cableguard is a technical desperate last solution, the source of friction which burns up the energy that should better be pushing arrow nocks forward. It makes compounds similar in use with other types of bows, but that's their only function; to get cables out of the way. Almost every bow can be reconstucted to work without this thing, as long as the archer doesn't mind adopting some new moves in nocking the arrow. And maybe slightly change his grip.

This is what I did to the FireBrand's model Discovery, the camless compound. It is an excellent idea, but current construction requires three cable slides: one at each power limb, and the third in the conventional place, riding the cableguard. Thus, there are four friction points which ate lots of arrow speed, until I removed the whole thing and replaced it with the solution you can see on the pictures below. Actually I had to saw off the carbon rod, because it was glued in place, and I didn't want to risk the metal structure change by heating up the riser.

The changes resulted in the following:

- the bow speed rose significantly. The cables touched only in their terminating points, and did not chafe against anything;
- all lateral forces working in the bow disappeared. The bow got symmetrical like a recurve. It also looked better.
- I did the new cables, four lines of* FastFlite stronger, out of precaution. Still, I'm not sure if it was needed at all.
- bow tuning was even simpler, although it would be hard to find a bow easier to tune anyway;
- shots / hits got more consistent. The bow, once set up, never changed in performance.
- the bow sound, its typical 'tock' got a bit louder, though. A pair of string silencers took care of that, and it was whisper-silent again.

So, see for yourself. The halfmoon material is 6mm thick Plexiglass. First, the 2" dia. wheel was turned out of a small plate. Then the cable rut was cut in its rim. This wheel was then cut into two irregular halves, all FastFlite contacting zones and cable ruts polished with household string...

Here are some 4000 more words (@ 1000 words p/pic ea., if that proverb bears any precision)
:)

And here's the last one of the Camless and also Cableguard-less Compound.

This one happened when I was doing something else. A piece of aluminum Z profile got sawn away.

The sketch is really rough, and anyone who tried to make such a peep sight should round all the angles, nicks and rims, wherever the bowstring touches. If anything, this could save the day if your original peep flew away to be free.

Who knows, you might like the Zeep Sight... :)

Thanks, Brent. Let's make this page a source. I'm sure lots of people will contribute; in their own time. In this sport, every little thing helps.

Hi Great Ideas I shoot Oneida for years and I have two tips for you Put brush buttons on your string and position them where they touch the limb Keeps brush from getting wedged and cuts string twang Then put Cat whisker on the string. They really help

Next put moleskin on the tip of the limb for about 6" That helps silence string slap when the string smacks the limbs after the shot. I willtake a silent bow over a fast bow any day TINK

If you have a chance, try and put up some pix. They help us visual types, and make this page look better :)

The bowhunter will always try and silence the bow over all other advantages, even arrow speed. But the target shooters might use some other logic, and some of the ideas would be useful to them. I'd like to think of this forum equally advantageous to all archers. So, keep them coming regardless!

Remember the olden days of gold rush? In time, this could be a veritable 'claim'

Thanks, AfricanBowhunter, and do not worry. I know what a brush button is. Almost any kind of string silencer can be positioned right where it can serve as a brush button as well.

But the specific solutions that are not commercially available, the ideas that come from archers directly to this Forum; well, that's exactly what this Forum is all about.

So, whenever you have something that you have made yourself, take a photo, reduce it in size to, say, 600 x 800 pixels @ 72 dpi, and load it up with an explanation (if needed). I hope, in time, this could be a treasure trove.

want a cheap target??
not for breadheads though
1-take a burlap bag or feed sack
2-stuff it just over 1/2 full with either old rags or more feed sacks
3-then pack them down tight
3-tie the bag shut so the insides are compressed
4-spray paint a round target on about the size of a tennis ball(this can be changed to preferance)
*you can take the bag, throw it for random distances or a set distance
**it will stop literally thousands of fp shots even from faster bows :D

Hey..I just stumbled upon this thread! These are all great tips. As archers this shed llihght on several aggravations we had last weekend during target shooting. I'm gonna make that cheap target posted by BuffaloCounty_32 to live at our cabin. It's keep it going.
