Hello all *!! *I am brand new here but I will post a picture of my first bow kill taken early Oct. of 2004. *This guy came with in 15 yrds of our blind gobbling *his head off. *Something had gotten a good hold on him and pulled out some tail feathers but I will take it anyway. *Best part my 6 yr old son Connor was right there with me and saw the whole thing go down.

i end up missing the opening weekend of spring turkey season because that is my wifes birthday and our anniversary so the second weekend is when it begins for me. that weekend found my father and i in the woods. after getting set up and calling for about 15 mins im getting a response which sounds 150+yards out. 20 mins later 2 birds are in sight and heading in to check out the decoys. while they are squaring off with the decoys my father says take one cause they dont go far when i shoot and that should give him the opportunity to take the other one. at 12 yards i let one fly connecting very well but they took off running and made it about 25 yards and the bird dropped. the second bird stayed around beating up on his buddy while he was down. we watched the whole one sided fight through the brush and my father was wishing he had a .22 cause the view from his seat in the blind there was a hole in the brush slightly smaller than the size of a basket ball that you may actually be able to thread an arrow or .22 through and connect on the second bird. after watching for 10+ mins. my father said, "trade me seats and try it." i watched and watched and agreed that it was possible. the rangefinder said the tree in front of them was 37 yards. i guestimated them to be 3-5 yards behind that tree so i held my 40 yard pin slightly high and when the second bird lined up in the hole i let it fly. he did about 3 flips before coming to rest. these 2 birds were not the biggest, about 19-20 lbs. and 5" beards but i didnt take a turkey during the fall so i was ready to refill the freezer.

My friends moose. Shot across a lake, which had to be crossed by canoe and 2 hp motor. The bull came to the call and he was walking out at about 40 yards. Rick grunted, nothing, he then cow called lightly and he just came roaring in and stopped, broadside at 20 yards....Rick drew and let fly like he can. A perfect double lung hit. The bull ran out about 60 yards and drooped in his track. What a rush.

Packing out was fun, 2 trips across with the canoe and 2 hp motor to haul 5 hunters to the bull and 4 trips across to haul the 4 quarters and 5 hutners back to the truck.

What a memory!!

I have alot of pics I would love to post but the one that is very special to me is the one where I cow called this spike bull within 5 FEET of me this past season in Colorado. Spikes arent legal to shoot so he got off lucky! My wife got the whole thing on video, which some of you saw, and I took the pic off the video so the quality is not good. But as I said, very special to me !

I'll jump into the photo contest. Here is a pic of my 2004 ND whitetail bow kill. I sat on the ground, a few rows inside a cornfield, watching a series of trails that came out of a CRP field. Deer were traveling to soybean and a combined wheat field (that had come back green) to feed. The date was Sept 26, 2004

What a START!!! Great postage guys!

I heard TXD's turkey story at work from his Dad. He couldn't believe the great shot through the little hole in the brush. And... I've got the wing feathers in my shop waiting for some good cedar shafts one of these days. Thanks Micheal!

Pic, Nice Moose buddy. Now there's a dream come true. Like the stick-n-string there too! Traditional Rocks!

Jerry, I must have missed out seeing that video buddy, but sure would like to! 5 feet. Wow! That'll get the blood pumping!

Milhouse, Good looking buck there. He shoulda thought about a diet... cause that corn got the best of him!

Ok, it's my turn.

The first pic entitled "Full Draw" is of me at full draw on a doe that I self filmed.
Second one... "Nice 10" is of a nice 10 point that was in front of my stand at 25 yards for 1/2 hour, but wouldn't give me a clear shot.
Third ...."The Watch" is me on the stand watching the 10 point.
Fourth ..."Celebration" is of my video partner Tim after he shot his buck this year.

More to come :)

Jon, as always, awesome stuff man !

Tej, yeah it was a rush but there was another bull coming where he had come from and I didnt want this guy to spook and bark. I honestly was trying to not to laugh as I could see and hear this thing trying to figure out what the heck I was. Anyhow, the other bull was another spike that came over the top and saw my wife move while she was videoing and he barked and ran, so I did a mature bull bugle instantly to make a (possible) branch bull think this so called mature bull ran off the spikes. But the branch bull never showed. But it sure was fun......wait til this year , we should have some awesome footage of elk !
Thanx for that site, I will scope it out. :D

From what I was told, it's true. I can't remember exactly where it was shot now, it's a small town N.W. of Austin. My son has shot a few in the 500lb-600lb range and says that they are small compared to some he has seen. Lot of Bacon there. :D

Here are a couple of photos taken during 2004's hunting season.

First is my buddy while we were walking into our hunting spot early one morning last fall. We were hunting Mule Deer. The colors have not been altered. The sky really was that color that morning.

I went out to check my game camera and took my yelow lab with me. I have been working him on retrieving and hunting antlers for almost a year now. I checked the camera which had over 50 photos and then we cut back a different route which brought us out on the other end of a wheat field.

As we crossed the field I noticed Sam getting excited, I spotted the antler about the same time he did in the wheat field. He picked it up and straight to me he come. Yes this was his 1st confirmed find totally on his own, Girl Scout Peanut butter cookies have never touched his mouth until this moment! Yes I have been carrying them around waiting for this occasion.

Sam received his praise and then we started off again, we did not make it 80 yrds and I had eye sight of another. I took him around down wind and as soon as his nose caught that scent he was on it like radar. As I held them together it was obvious they were a match.

I have attached a picture of Sam holding his 1st confirmed find of his very own. I will try to post some more pictures later.

Rather than posting picture after picture - I'm on dial up.* I'll let you check out a link to the Alberta Bowhunters Association http://www.bowhunters.ca/Events/04banquetindex.htm.* All of the pic's on the page were taken by me at last years convention.* There's some really nice mounts to be seen and some really crappy pictures by me too.* My favorite picture though is of a brown colour phase bear coming into a bait site last spring that can be seen in this thread ABA forum thread http://www.bowhunters.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=4098&posted=1#post4098 The bear took nearly 3 hours to get to that point, I'm sitting in my stand debating whether to draw my bow or not, he's extremely alert and I'm hoping he'll settle into the bait for lunch.* Unfortunately, as good a spot as the bait is, located in a natural funnel, it's also 150 yds from a winter logging road.* About 5 seconds after the photo he's nearly ready to settle into the bait when what seems like 10 quads go by!* The bear took off and the waiting game was on again.

02-15-2005, 11:20 PM
Here is my entry for the photo contest in the hunting section.* This was my 11 year old sons first year of deer hunting.* He has sat with me for the last 2 years but this was his first year hunting himself.*

Can you believe this is his first deer in his first season of hunting?
http://homepages.accnorwalk.com/blodg/deer/derec%20deer2.jpg

The look on his face in this one says it all.*
http://homepages.accnorwalk.com/blodg/deer/derec%20deer6.jpg

Ok, now think back to your first deer.* Or your first year of deer hunting, did you get one?* Or think back to 5th grade........
http://homepages.accnorwalk.com/blodg/deer/derec%20deer3.jpg

I set a goal for myself to put my son on a deer this year and I did not hunt myself until it was accomplished.* We hunted my property a few days with no luck and then went to Southern Ohio for my annual bow hunt during the rut. I put two tree stands back-to-back in the same tree in one of my best spots. We sat for a day and a half and did not see any deer. On the 3rd day the movement kicked in like I knew it would during the rut. We were seeing deer so often that my son said "dad, we are seeing so many deer that I am just going to stay standing up". I grunted at a few 1 1/2 year old bucks and one 2 1/2 year old with no response and we got busted by a mature doe. We saw two does bed down and watched a spike later come and kick them up. A little later we heard the leaves crunch to our left and turned to see a nice 3 1/2 year old buck coming through the pines. I swear to god my son whispered "Oh crap" when he saw the deer coming! The buck stopped to make a scrape 20 yards from us but there was no shot through the thick pines. He worked on the scrape for a few minutes and I started getting really nervous with anticipation. I was way more nervous than when shooting a deer myself and I hoped my laboring breathing would not affect my son. If the buck went any direction but one he would stay in the thick pines and we would not get a shot. When he was done scraping he continued on the direction he was travelling and I knew we were going to get a shot. My son had not started lining up the shot yet so I whispered to him and told him to put the sight on him as soon as he clears the pines because I was going to stop him in the creek. When the buck came in the open I let him go a few steps and then grunted with my voice to stop him. The buck stopped at 16 yards and about a second later I heard the thump of the cross bow and watched the 100 grain NAP Razorback hit in the exact perfect spot! From my view I could see the bolt skipping down the creek bed after passing through. As the buck ran off I grabbed my son's shoulder and told him that was a beatiful shot and to keep his eye on him. He ran about 30 yards and just stopped and stood there. I have seen this many times and told Derec that he was going to fall. The deer fell over and flinched once but he was done when he hit the ground.

It may have been a once in a lifetime type of experience to watch over his shoulder as my son shoots a 140+ class buck for his first deer!* He is not strong enough to shoot his compound at the 40lb. state minimum and I don't hunt with a gun so I bought him a crossbow.* He should be close to being able to shoot 40 lbs. this season and if he can shoot it accurately we will be using the bow from here on out.
