View Full Version : Windows 2000 woes
Hi Tony,
I still have not been able to install my copy of TAP (v 5.6.5) onto Windows 2000. I'm currently using it on my work laptop running Windows 98, but that will come to an end early next month when the laptop gets replaced with another unit running - you guessed it - Windows 2000!!
The Setup program starts & runs, but then tells me it needs to update some files. If you click yes, it seems to do something. If you then reboot and continue it repeats the message and you get stuck in a loop! Here's a pic of the dialog box that pops up:

I'm running Service pack 4.
Any help you can give me will be appreciated. Also would like to hear from any user who has successfully installed onto Win2k!!
Thanks,
Mark
Windows 2000 original release was fine.....SP1 worked to. When they added SP2 that is where troubles began. In order to get this to install you will downoload and update your windows 2000 to SP4. This can be gotten off the Microsoft website.
What is happening is Windows isnt allowing a system file to be updated.
Let me know if I can help you any further.
I hope you have a fast web connection....!!!

click download and save this file.
Tony,
As I mentioned in my first post, I'm already running SP4. Would there be any other updates required?
Thanks,
Mark

I am not Tony but,
Make sure that you are an Administrator on the machine
If at all Possible I would reinstall SP4 if you can.
I have not had a problem with it on XP or 2000.
Also you might want to check critical updates and see if any are availble.

Thanks, I will re-install SP4 and check for updates that might affect me.

I re-installed SP4 and the problem is not fixed. Still can't install.
I checked for applicable updates and found nothing that might fix this problem. Not sure what to do next.
Thanks,
Mark
Mark-
There are a bazzillion W2K users....I just checked the log in the registration database and it logs the operating system and browser. I know W2K to be picky about permissions.....are the Administrator? I am pretty certain that in order to install anything on W2K you need to be the adminstrator.
Aside from that I am not quite sure.....what version of TAP are you trying to install? What is the name of the file TAPxxxx.exe?
We'll get you up and running rest assured.
