 My son, who is a full-time firefighter in this town, bought his first home and was very happy to move in. He had told me that the first things to go to the house would be a 30 pack and the deer he had shot the day before. His e-mail to me was: The first guy to show up was a young kid with a clipboard. When i asked him what he wanted he said he was from the Health Dept. and they had complaints about the deer in the tree. He asked if I could move it so I asked him if he saw any other trees in my yard. Then he asked me if I could put something over it. I thought about it for a second and said I could but I won't! That was fine he said I was within my rights. I asked him why he was involved and he said the conservation guy was on break. I told him to have him come by when he was done. He told me to call him and explain the situation and I said no, tell him he can stop by if he wants. Of course he did and was fine with the situation after we talked a bit. The whole reason I bought a house was so that I could do what I wanted. I'm only there for a day and already have people trying to tell me what to do in my own yard.
Some of the neighbors checked it out later and they were pretty funny too. One girl was laughing and even said " I'm so city". One older woman asked me to take it down so as not to traumatize her kids if they saw it. I calmy explained to her how many kids are used to it and if she gave them a chance they would probably think it was neat. I told her to send them over to check it out if they wanted to.
I'm not going to get much hunting in with the house but will be out Saturday with the boy I told you I was taking hunting so he could see what it is all about
If we could only go back to the day when hunting was considered normal and acceptable by most people.

If you ask me this is sad. People dont want to see a dead deer but someone getting blown away on TV is ok with them. Its up to all of us to inform the people that dont have a clue

I too am a career firefighter and I too live in a neighborhood. I cant fit my bassboat in the garage and I have to keep the dang thing directly behind the house so it cant be seen from the road. I knew this when I signed the contract, but when I signed, the builder told me it would only be a few hundred bucks to bump out the back for the boat. He erred, Oh well..

I think your boy handled himself well, opting to use the opportunity for education as opposed to telling his new community members to get bent.

Welcome from one member of the Top of the Food Chain!

Brent.

Glad he didn't give in. I agree...we need to make hunting the normal again.

In the rural area where I grew up, opening day of deer season was a scheduled day for school to be closed.... :)

Now it's like any other day :(

You handled that very well, it is sad that the world is coming to this, besides GOD put the animals here on earth for man to eat and it is quoted in the bible.

thats pretty funny, I am a fireman in NY and several years ago shot a buck in the afternoon, by the time I gutted and put it in my pick up drove home from upstate etc. etc., I had to hang the deer for the night, the next day about 10.30 am ( while making phone calls as were to drop the deer off ) my door bell rings, not once but llike three times in a row, so I open the door and its my neighbor behind me, and the first thing he says Is OH MY GOD IS THAT A REAL DEER? now I was going to say no its a replica for the sleigh at our firehouse but, I said yes bill its a deer. Then he say YOU HAVE TO TAKE THAT DOWN RIGHT NOW, i said I do???? HE SAYS IF MY WIFE SEE'S THAT SHE'S GOING TO FREAK, so blah blah bla. I told him it was cleared for take off and would be flying off to the butcher.. as i close the door before I tell him what I really think, just thought i would share my Xperence with the NEIGHBORS>> be well all

Ha! thats awesome!

I too am involved in the emergency services, 911 dispatcher to be exact. I work in a Large city in my county, which is fairly farmy (lots of NYCitiots though).

I myself took at least 7 calls on 911 from people asking if it was legal to hang a deer in a yard. When I informed them it was indeed legal and there were strict laws on hunter harrassment, they were flabbergasted!

They sure as heck got the wrong guy on the other end of the line!

I too also bought my first house this year, and live with hunters on both sides of me! One is an outlaw jagoff, the other is a Harley guy whos son gets napped for illegal deer every year! Quality people in my hood yo! :afro:
